The Box Vale Mine track follows the formation of a historic railway line and passes through cuttings, along embankments and through a tunnel 84 metres in length. Although much of the surrounding terrain is steep and rocky, the four point four kilometre walking track has easy grades and the return walk takes about three hours. There is also a one point eight kilometre spur track through pleasant bush land to 40 foot falls and a very steep track leads to vantage point below the falls. Picnic tables and barbecues are provided near the track head car park.
An easy walk through dry rainforest in Woko National Park.
A short and very picturesque circuit in Bouddi National Park, with some of the best views in the park and a stop at beautiful Maitland Bay.
A steep descent into the Bungonia Gorge going into a trackless scramble through the boulder field followed by a steep ascent back out of the gorge with a sidetrip to the top of the nearby Mt Ayre.
Burning Mountain is a unique natural phenomenon and a highlight of the region. The best way to discover this unusual nature reserve is a 4km return track that has some steep sections.
Nice walk on a single trail to the top of Mt. Burringbar after which the mountain range is named.
Offers some views through the trees down to the coast.
From the Eastern end of Wategos popular beach parking is difficult. Enter trail and take it up to the light house and back passing the furthest East point of the Australian mainland.
About a k and half each way plus another k for detour to Cape Byon. Optional detour to Little Wategos Beach/ lookout via board walk.
Cabbage Palm loop walking track in Wallingat National Park is a relatively short bushwalk over gentle hills with plenty of wildlife spotting and birdwatching opportunities.
Short walk through rainforest. The track doesn't seem to get too much use and so isn't very clear in some places due to the leaf litter. There was a fallen tree near the end in what looked a bit like a clearing making it difficult to see where to go next. The path was to the right of the tree and we realised that we were all but back to the start. Not a very interesting walk. Disappointing.
This Cape Banks Circuit has a lot to offer and is thoroughly recommended. The walking travels over beaches, through coastal forest and across exposed headlands. Historically, this walk shows glimpses into the fortifications required during both World Wars. The optional side trip to the coast hospital cemetery, with over 2000 graves, is worthwhile. The Cape Banks Circuit makes for a fascinating walk, both scenically and historically, and is recommended.
