Enjoy an easy walk along the northern bank of Bald Rock Creek downstream to its junction with Ramsay Creek. In dry seasons, these creeks may not run.

A must for wildflower lovers, this track is scattered in spring with superb wildflower displays. Flowering shrubs fringing the creek provide nectar for honeyeaters and parrots. Superb fairy-wrens, red-browed firetails and thornbills move through creek bank thickets seeking insects.

Getting there:

Girraween NP is situated approximately 260km by road south-west of Brisbane. To reach the park, turn off the New England Highway 26km south of Stanthorpe or 30km north of Tenterfield onto Pyramids Road. The winding bitumen road continues a further 9km east through the Wyberba Valley to the park's Information Centre and day use picnic area.

An alternative road from Stanthorpe to Girraween via Eukey and Storm King Dam has some gravel sections.

Route/Trail notes:

From the day use picnic area, head over the creek bridges as if you are going to the Granite Arch and then left along Bald Rock Creek Circuit. You then bear right onto the track, following the creeks northern side.

The track is well defined as far as the rocky creek bed. An information sign regarding The Junction is provided here. From here you have two options.

1. Crisscross the creek and scramble over the boulders as you work your own way down to the river junction.

2. Follow the white painted lines/markers (painted on the floor/rocks every 20m or so). Keep following the lines till you reach the 'X'.

On your return, once you reach the Bald Creek Circuit, follow this to right, over the creek (if dry) and up through the old campground to the roadway and left back to day use area.

Permits/Costs:

None.

Other References/Comments:

This walk shows you geology in the making! Prime examples of how wind and water has formed and continues to form the rounded boulder and left them sitting there ready to roll. How the mosses and lichen have worked their way into the cracks and crevices and caused slivers of granite to detach from the monoliths.

With so many bushwalking options in the park, why not take advantage of the excellent camping facilities at Castle Rock.

A nice and easy walk to a beautiful junction of 2 streams. Was a natural playground for the family with things to check out and explore.

Completed the Northern circuit walks today. Started out towards the Pyramid. My husband wasn’t keen so I went on alone but after getting a third of the way up the last rock face I decided it wasn’t for me. I have made the summit many years ago and didn’t enjoy it. It’s not the height but the severe fear of falling backwards that takes away all enjoyment on these types of rock faces. Very achievable physically for moderate fitness though. The walk to the Junction and remainder of the bald creek circuit is stunning and highly recommended. Easy walking and just amazing scenery.

Stunning scenery, especially the junction itself. Many spots to sit and enjoy.

Gentle walk, but rocks can be slippery at The Junction. Seemed to take a bit longer to get out there than expected. Beautiful after some rain, very peaceful. Some people were going swimming, a bit too nippy for my liking.

Nice flat walk. Creek was quite low (to the point where there was a spot spread out enough that I could walk over without getting my socks wet). Perfect spot to lay back and enjoy the winter sun.

Nice and easy hike

A favourite of ours, nice walk along the creek. Have spotted wallabies and a lot of bird life on this walk. Need to be careful of a couple of ant nests along the path with large red ants that have a painful bite.

Decided to do this walk again to see the wild flowers. We did this walk a few years ago at the same time of the year and the wild flowers were amazing. The floral display this year was not as prolific as then, but still there and still beautiful.

Very easy walk down to The Junction. What a beautiful spot! we were running out of time, otherwise we would have walked right down to the corner. Definitely be doing that next visit!
When we went it was very dry, would love to see it with the water flowing

Done this walk on a number of occasions. Very dry and a lot of trees dead due to drought and fires. No water flowing in any of the creeks. Managed to explore quite a few areas which would normally be inaccessible when the creeks a running.

Easy walk, very well maintained trail. Fair bit of exposure so wouldn't recommend doing at midday. Great to walk across the rocks at the end. Somewhat dry at the moment but plenty of rock pools with some fair sized catfish (30cm). Really beautiful walk. Would probably do this on day 2 after pyramid

Really enjoyed this. I loved the end junction part and exploring around the water filled rocks. It was drizzling so there was lots of birds and insects sounds and water babbling over rocks.

beautiful walk

Pretty walk but disappointed to find the junction was fully dry so no swimming opportunities

A great little walk and because it had not rained, I was able to crisscross the creek as I wended my way down. The following morning, after a horrendous overnight thunder storm, which included a lightning strike on the Pyramid, saw the creek full and running fast with no access across from the camp site.

A pretty, easy walk. Quite a few kangaroos about and lots of beautiful birds. We went during light rain, and it was lovely to see so much water flowing. Take care on the wet granite, as it's very slippery.

Beautiful walk. Really easy and fun to meander through after a bigger walk. Bring your togs!
