Mt Barney - East Peak - South Ridge (Mt Barney National Park)

Very Hard

We had absolutely beautiful weather for our 9 hours on Mt Barney. We went off track a few times but very soon realised and got back on track. It was a well-marked trail. We stopped for food and sun baking at the creek. The scrambling was fun and a little challenging at times (my husband did it easily). We definitely felt our poor feet on the last hour back to the car park!

Instructions made it easy to find and follow this track. Short but steep with a little rock scrambling. Sandy in some parts. Great for a shorter mountain climb.

This was a pleasant walk although not challenging/exciting. The historical aspect was interesting. At times the path split off and was overgrown but we managed to stay on track.
Mermaid Mountain (D'Aguilar National Park)

Long gradual walk with plenty of steep inclines. We started at Wirrabara Road and followed signs for Rocky Mountain High. We then kept on the main path and sure enough, after around 9km, we made it to the beautiful view at the top. The path was very overgrown for one stretch and we dodged many cobwebs/spiders.

Need to go to Moogerah Peaks National Park in Google Maps to find Haigh Park and the carpark next to the dam. Pleasant hike. Food at the Dam Cafe was delicious.

What a fun climb! Definitely a leg burner but it’s a short climb up. We loved the scrambling! Not sure if we took the right path at one stage as the track became difficult to navigate, with nothing but sand and leaves and no tree roots or trees to hold. The way we came down seemed much easier!
