Shamrock Mine to Castle Mountain Lookout (Cania Gorge National Park)
16 Sep, 2018
Very Hard
8km return
6 hrs
I am not going to credit myself with having completed this walk, but I had a good try! Crazy walk or what? The previous quoted times and distances were underestimated, now adjusted by extrapolating my GPS Track to the lookout, as well as updating the route description as far as I went. I though the original writer was kidding when they said 1.5hr to the rock face: no, correct!
I only came across one harmless Green Tree Snake, but then again, I made a lot of noise to ward off any others!
I'm coming back through this area next year on route to Carnarvon Gorge and will set aside a whole day to try and conquer this gruelling but challenging bushwalk.
Dripping Rock and The Overhang (Cania Gorge National Park)
15 Sep, 2018
Easy
3.2km return
90 mins
Day two and four walks to cover, so this was the first. An early start meant not many on the track and time to have a good look around. This included working my way up the creek bed beyond The Overhang until the size of the boulders barred my way.
Dragon and Bloodwood Caves (Cania Gorge National Park)
15 Sep, 2018
Medium
4.2km return
2 hrs
Having just walked Dripping Rock and The Overhang, this was a obvious detour before returning to the car park. Took a while to work out the Dragon as the weather worn back of the cave looked like dragon scales!
Two Storey Caves Circuit (Cania Gorge National Park)
15 Sep, 2018
Easy
1.5km return
1 hr
Ticked this off as the third walk of the day, but could not get very excited about the caves, except for the little rodent running around inside it! The King Orchid Crevice however was far more interesting.
Shamrock Mine Site (Cania Gorge National Park)
15 Sep, 2018
Easy
1.4km return

Headed up the canyon to have a look around the dam and tick this walk off. Not much to see, so was a little disappointed, however the information signs gave a good account of what had gone on here.
Big Foot Walk (Cania Gorge National Park)
14 Sep, 2018

First of many walks I had planned on a four day stopover in Cania Gorge. Got this easy one ticked off on the day of arrival!

I was on school camp nearby and this walk was the activity on one of the days. Pretty easy walk for me, with the views from Tumgun Lookout the highlight.
Florence Falls (Litchfield National Park)
29 May, 2018
Easy
1.6km return

Our day in Litchfield NP was all about termites, rock holes and waterfalls. This the first swim, where the current was so strong that you could not get near the waterfall itself. Beautifully refreshing.
Tolmer Falls (Litchfield National Park)
29 May, 2018
Medium
1.6km return
45 mins
Just walking down to the lookout and back was just too easy, so I followed the pleasant loop walk that provided better views of the surrounding vista. Tried to find a way down to the natural bridge, but there was no track and it looked too dangerous to bush-bash.
Wangi Falls Loop Walk (Litchfield National Park)
29 May, 2018
Medium
1.6km return
1 hr
My last walk on this trip to NT and after a quick swim in the plunge pool, I headed up to the top of the falls and back and then needed another swim to cool off!
My highlight of this walk was taking account of the constantly changing flora from dry eucalypt to monsoon forest as I climbed to the top of the falls and back.
I have to say that whilst Kakadu and Katherine have the spectacle, Litchfield was the most fun!
Leliyn Trail (Edith Falls) (Nitmiluk National Park)
27 May, 2018
Medium
3km return
90 mins
Time was limited, as we had a long drive back to Darwin, so this was a quick splash and dash around. Good job crocs can't climb waterfalls!
