A short steep walk through a moist fern gully leads to a wonderful view of these falls. Spring is the best time as the melting snow brings the falls to life.
Another short walk on the Lady Talbot Drive section of Yarra Ranges. See Keppel Falls on the Taggerty River and stop off up the road at Keppel Falls Lookout for a view of the Taggerty River Valley including the falls.
Magnificent trees, cascades and a meeting of rivers - the Beeches Rainforest Walk is a beautiful walk on Lady Talbot Drive. It includes the Taggerty Cascades and groves of Myrtle Beech trees (Nothofagus cunninghamii) including many trees over 300 years old.
A short walk through bushland with views of the Brisbane River.
A short walk up over the ridge and down in to the 1st crater. Between 1st and 2nd crater watch for orb spiders. Can be stunning when the lakes have water.
I have found this gem a challenging summit but only because the two times I have been up has been off-track. There is a track but I haven't been on it all the way. Awesome views of over Mt Walsh National Park and also west towards Coalstoun Lakes. Certainly some steep rocky sections and would not advise if wet or inexperienced.
This walk start from the main car park. Head off toward the Gorge lookout then it continues on from there to a fire trail that runs up the eastern side of the range. Fairly easy going and slowly works uphill with a steeper section at the end to get the heart pumping. Along the fire trail there are the odd resting chair and glimpse of views off to the east. Take plenty of water as there is no water anywhere on the trail or lookout. The maps at the start said 22km return but I had 24km on my return.
A steep walk to the top of Black Mountain.
A 20km walk at the southern end of Googong Dam, near Queanbeyan NSW. There are 2 options, one is to walk to Flynns Crossing and back or take the cycling route and turn the end of the walk into a slightly longer loop. An excellent walk through dry forest with a couple of river crossings to test out your boots and finding a way around one too deep to walk. Good walk for training purposes as there are regular climbs, steep and short and long and not so steep.
True to its name this track features a variety of banksia species. Visit in autumn when the banksias are in bloom. The track begins in Frog Hollow where wet heath provides rich habitat for 23 species of frog that call Karawatha Forest home then climbs through eucalypt forest to the crest of the hill and the sandstone boulders of Poet’s Rock. This track connects with the Dianella, Wallum and Dentata tracks for a longer walking experience.
