| The new concrete track makes it a lot easier, but less of a challenge. And, the 'platform' at the top is less than impressive given the publicity hipe. The old tracks are now off limits. | ||||

| This is anything but an interesting walk and looks to have been seriously neglected over the years, even though it is in the centre of the very pretty and vibrant town of Maleny. Try the Maleny Trail (Peace in the Trees Circuit) instead. | ||||

Maleny Trail (Peace in the Trees Circuit) (Sunshine Coast) |
7 May, 2017 |

5.5km return 2 hrs |

| I stumbled on this trail by accident, as there was no signage in town at the bridge. Being the good bushwalker I am, I just followed the path along the boardwalk and ended up on a 5.5km interesting country walk. Funnily, I had run a X-country at the Golf Club in the morning and ended up circumventing the course on the walk in the afternoon! Given the monies that have been spent on this trail by Council, there is very little detail anywhere to promote it and once you get to the old farm house at the Golf Club there is no details on how you get back to town. I bashed across a field down to the museum to get back! | ||||

| Our third 'falls walk' of the day and one where details were a little sketchy. However, it was well worth the trek to find this little haven on Baxter Creek. It is amusing that National Parks signpost this as Baxter Falls from the north and Baxter Creek Falls from the south! | ||||

Mapleton Falls & Wompoo Circuit (Mapleton National Park) |
19 Apr, 2017 |
Easy |
1.8km return 1 hr |
|
| This was the second of three 'falls walks' we completed today and in terms of waterfalls, is was very disappointing. All views are from the top of the falls and yes, you can see the water coming over the top of the falls, but that is about it. The walk around the Wompoo Circuit was far more interesting. | ||||

Kureelpa Falls (Mapleton National Park) |

| The first of the day's three waterfall walks and by far the best. Research details were limited, so it was a case of getting in there and following our noses! What we found at these seldom visited falls was such fun scrambling down over the boulders to where the falls disappear into the gorge chasm and then working our way around to the far side and attempting to get down into the gorge, but no route was found. | ||||

| A clear objective of our recent visit to Tasmania, was to tick off Russell and Horseshoe Falls in the Mt Field NP. What we found, was much much more. We added a third falls and the 'Tall Trees' area. This entire area's flora is so different to what we usually experience in SE Queensland, it was amazing. | ||||

| This a 'bucket list' item if you visit Tasmania. We were lucky enough to get to the top on a clear, but very cold and windy day to enjoy the outstanding 360° vista. | ||||

Tahune Airwalk (Tasmania) |

| Tasmania is a fascinating place, with so many places to wonder at and get lost in. This second trip has ticked a few more boxes, but leaves a whole lot more to explore. Tahune Airwalk, whilst commercial, provides you with a history lesson on how the area has changed in just 200 hundred years, but leaves a legacy of the previous 1,000s if not 100,000's. If I remember, this area was covered by a glacier less than 10,000 years ago! | ||||
