Camping with the kids at Baroon Point, this was an obvious morning's distraction before attempting the Trail Bike Tracks opposite at Tewantin National Park. Never realised how vertical a drop off there was to the north, until viewed from Mt Cooroy. |

We saw the signs and decided to detour and have a look. Well worth it, as I had only previously been in underground limestone caves.

Thurston's training ground! I took advantage of a drive up and back, followed by a hike up Cudtheringa Track and the Goat Track back down. The views from the top are incredible and spent as much time enjoying them as I did getting there. |

This is by far the biggest challenge we have ever taken on; to climb the Western Summit Track of Mt Bartle Frere in one day, having aborted the attempt last year. We camped at Junction Camp overnight (watch for snakes) and started the climb at 7.15am. It took us a surprisingly long time to get to the summit by making sure we took the right track (6.5hr), but also spent time talking to other climbers that had camped at Western Summit overnight, enjoying a snack and breather at North West Peak, taking photos and enjoying the views and surroundings. And adding pink flagging tape markers! We did loose are way once dropping down to Western Summit Camp and lost half an hour (now well pink flagged!). We were lucky, that the cloud and mist cleared just as we got to the summit, allowing us glimpses of the surrounding vista. With time not on our side, we left the summit at 1.45pm and pushed hard on a now familiar route non-stop to Junction Camp, arriving just as the sun set at 6pm (4.25hr). We travelled light, with just 3lt of water each, but did leave a small backpack with extra water at the 3.5km mark, where you pass under the granite boulders. Did the leeches get me, you bet; two of the blood sucking bastards. Not wishing to spend another freezing night at camp, we quickly packed our tents and headed back to Cairns for a well deserved shower and an 'Irish' couple of beers! We have provided a GPS track, but be aware that it does not cover the last 200m to the summit. |

This has got to be the most frustrating mountain to climb in the Glass House Mountains. There is no trail as such and you bush-bash your way to the top and back again the best way you can. There is no view at the top and you come home covered in scratches; but you just ticked off another climb! We started our own cairn to mark the top. |

Another walk, that we completed by accident! We were doing a reci of the course for Nambour Park Run (the hardest Park Run in Australia), which we were due to complete on the following Saturday morning at 7am. So not only have we walked this one, but also run the 5km in 38 minutes! |

Not the most enjoyable climb we have ever done and it took us two attempts just to find the access points. However, that ticks off yet another Glass House Mountain, with just three to go.

Having just climbed the Eastern Twin, this was a welcome relief; more challenging and with better views of the northern Glass House Mountains. I have looked at this range from the north south east and west and each one gives you a new spectacular view.

I'm very bad at reading instruction, so the first challenge was finding the start of the trail! We missed the entrance and started from the south and had it not been for a local guy we met on the surrounding track, we would never have got to the top. Have now rewritten the 'getting there' section. Second attempt we pink taped to the bottom of the gully between the two peaks; sorry guys, ran out of tape at that point! We ascended through the clouds and could not even see the second peak, but as they cleared, we were presented with an absolutely spectacular view of the clouds swirling around Beerwah, Coonowrin and Tibrogargan. Loved it! |

The hardest part was finding the entrance through the 'arch'; and thus we have rewritten the guidelines and OTT'd flagging taped at the entrance and on the trail! This was not so big a challenge as we had expected, but after heavy rain, the ropes were very welcome. |

First walk of the year whilst camping at Captain Logan Camp, Lake Wivenhoe for the Australia Day long weekend. Not that exciting as we were Koala stopping and never saw one. |
