Balancing Rock

North Queensland

From the Balancing Rock car park a rough track climbs up a rock formation, providing views of Balancing Rock—a spectacular limestone outcrop. Take a moment to enjoy the view and photograph the surrounding open woodlands. The Wullumba art site is located to the right of the car park.

Cradle Mountain Summit

Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park

A hike to the summit of Cradle Mountain. I would recommend staying at the mountain, as most accomodation is quite a distance from the visitors centre. The visitors centre opens at 8am, the first shuttle bus to the starting point leaves at 8:15 and the last return bus leaves at 6pm. No cars can drive to the lake at present inside these hours and if you miss the last bus it is about another 3 hour walk out so keep this in mind. If you do drive down before 8am, you can drive back inside these hours but you need to follow one of the busses as they are in radio contact with each other on the narrow one lane road. Personally I would recommend doing the loop via Hansons Peak and returning via Marrion's Lookout, in my opinion it is much better and less travelled, probably because it is a little longer and also because most walkers doing the Overland Track go via Marrion's. Amazing views the whole way and lots of options if you want to make the walk a little longer. Highly recommended, the best walk I have ever done.

Crystal Shower Falls Walk

Dorrigo National Park

The walk to Crystal Shower Falls might be one of the shortest waterfall walks, but it is also one of the most intriguing because you can go behind the waterfall itself. Lush rainforest towers above you on the walk to the falls and you might hear the call of rainforest birds like fruit doves.

Once you reach the falls, a suspension bridge leads to a short side track that will take you behind the waterfall into a rocky cavern.

To get to Crystal Shower Falls you’ll need to take the first part of the Satinbird stroll and then join the Wonga walk, leaving from The Glade picnic area. If you are feeling energetic and want to explore the rainforest more you can carry on walking the Wonga walk.

Crows Nest Falls Circuit

Crows Nest National Park

Crows Nest Falls via Kauyoo Loop (including The Cascades, Kauyoo Pool and Bottlebrush Pool).

Explore the creek on your way to Crows Nest Falls. Steep crevices and slippery rocks lead to the Cascades, where you can hear the ‘tock tock’ calls of striped marsh frogs echoing around the boulders in summer. A short scramble over low boulders brings you to Kauyoo Pool, where a sandy beach allows easy access to the normally shallow water - a perfect swimming spot for families with small children. Further along the trail, a long staircase leads you down to Bottlebrush Pool, which is an ideal place to enjoy a swim and relax. Keep an eye out for brush-tailed rock wallabies as they move quietly around the surrounding granite hills and boulders.

Caution: Take care on the steps leading down to the creek and when rock-hopping across the creek, as these surfaces can be slippery when wet.

Note: BYO drinking water. Water from the picnic/camping areas must be boiled before use.

Bangalley Headland

Greater Sydney

A relatively hard walk, 45 leisurely minutes return on a loop track. The headland is the highest point on Sydney's northern coastline, and offers spectacular views south to Sydney and north to Broken Bay and the central coast.
Bangalley Head is one of the largest bushland reserves on Pittwater's coastline. This large size together with the great variety of native plants, makes the reserve an ideal home for an abundant variety of native wildlife.
