A very long day walk (or bike ride) from Darlington, or easily accessible in a day from Frenchs Farm / Encampment Cove campgrounds. The walk along a sandy track end at the Robeys Farm farmhouse, which is in pretty good condition and has a number of original artefacts inside the house.
The Fossil Cliffs are considered one of the best examples of life 250 million years ago, with a vast number of shellfish fossils embedded in the limestone cliffs. Best at low tide when you can clamber down to the shoreline. The circuit also passes some historic buildings in Darlington and offers some nice views of Bishop and Clerk and the high sea cliffs on the east coast.
Mount Maria (711 m) is the highest point on the island, and offers sweeping views up and down the Tasmanian coast. The last part of the track goes up a scree slope with some clambering up (or down!) large boulders just before the summit.
This walk is an extension of the hike to Westray's Grave (see https://www.aussiebushwalking.com/qld/lamington/westray-s-grave-from-christmas-creek) along Christmas Creek. The other known walk on this route is to the Stinson crash site.
Without a word of hesitation I would recommend that if you go to Christmas Creek you must check out Larapinta Falls as they are absolutely spectacular and made even more special by the fact that you can swim right under the cascade which is over 30 metres high.
Absolutely worth doing, the falls are spectacular and there is nothing like swimming under such a large waterfall. Beautiful scenery though it is fairly well out in the sticks so be prepared.
A walk up from Cotswold trailhead to a cave on the northern side of the mountain.
Off track bush-bashing and some climbing.
Located in Wrattens State Forest . Nice quite hike as none venture out here often I say.
Located in the small town of Bollon between St George and Cunnamulla. Follow a concrete path ( suitable for wheelchairs) along the creek and spot some koalas and echidnas
Good for a stop and stretch your legs, when travelling on the Landsborough (Matilda) Highway between Barcaldine and Charleville or Roma, with a short stroll along the levee.
This is only a good walk when there's actually water in the Lake. The lake does dry up making for a sandy experience. When full with water it should be an amazing experience as it attracts various wildlife. Ideal for birdwatching with a bird viewing site 4.5 km from car park
In Dowling Street head to caravan park and follow track to the river. This is a nice walk along the river ( where some of the locals may swim ) that ends back to the other side of Downling Street past the old Cobb & Co Crossing.
