Mt Cordeaux forms the Northern side of Cunningham's Gap. The track ends at a platform just below the main peak and is ideal for viewing South, down the length of Main Range National Park. There are also good views of the Moogerah Peaks, Mt Barney and North to the Mistake Mountains.

Maximum Elevation

Getting there

From Brisbane follow the Cunningham Highway towards Cunningham's Gap. At the top of the gap turn right into a carpark adjoining the highway. The Mt Mitchell track leaves on the opposite side of the road, so take care when crossing!

The track is clearly marked so no map is required, however the Sunmap Cunninghams Gap sheet covers the area.

Further Walks

The Mt Cordeaux track continues on to Bare Rock/Morgan's Walk and is worth the effort if you have the time.

lovely hike...amazing view at the top, and a nice place where you can sit and admire the view with some good food

Amazing views from Mt Cordeux. I will definitely do this one again. Went up to bare rock for further 360 degrees views.

Good fun family walk. Amazing views.

Very easy easy walk, even for those with low fitness levels. You start off directly from the carpark and go up a gentle incline to the top. Plenty of spots to stop for photos and plenty of nice clean rain forest air!

Nittus on 10 Aug, 2020

Walking no scrambling. Saw a lyrebird, stinging gympie. Get there before 10am if you want a park. Found to be a much nicer journey than Mt Mitchell across the road. Barerock is nice while Morgans walk was short but average.

Lovely walk. Not strenuous. Rewarded with spectacular view at the top.

Carpark was fully packed out, had to park a few kms up the road, but luckily there is a bushwalking track that connects the secondary carpark to the main one (Box Forest Trail). This adds an additional 5km of hiking to the overall return distance.

Very easy safe comfortable walk, good for the kids and family, amazing views

Heading from Brisbane to Warwick through Cunningham's Gap, you will find Mt Mitchell on your left and Mt Cordeaux and Bare Rock on your right. It is about 1.5 hour drive from Brisbane and around an hour from Ipswich 🚗

Mt Cordeaux stands 1,135m above sea level ⛰ It is 6.2km return hike and from here a further 2.8km to Bare Rock 👟

This picturesque hike will take you through some stunning rainforest with moss covered ancient old tree's and boulders 🌳 glorious crow's nests, staghorns and ferns 🌿 Even though I started this hike later in the day, you could still feel the Winter crisp air on your cheeks as the afternoon went on 🌞❄
The sound of bell bird's, lyrebirds, parrots 🦜 frog's 🐸 and the scuffle of wallabies being woken from a late afternoon nap 🦘 can be heard throughout the forest as it starts to wind down for the day. My kind of magic ✨

The view from Mt Cordeaux is quite beautiful with views South down the length of the Main Range National Park, Moogerah Peaks and Mt Barney and North to the Mistake Mountains 🌄

I would highly recommend hiking the further 2.8km from here to Bare Rock 🗻 It is a long 2.8km but well worth it. From on top of Bare Rock you do feel like you are on top of the world 🌏 watching the clouds gently dance over the Great Dividing Range ☁️ soaking up the Winter sunshine 🌞 you can't help but be so very grateful to be alive 🙏

I would not classify this hike as hard but a reasonable level of fitness is needed 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
The track is well signed and easy to follow ↖️
It took me about 2 hours to hike to Bare Rock with stopping for photo's along the way 📸 and just under an hour and a half to get back down.

Now is the perfect time to start hiking and exploring these glorious mountains of ours and enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer 💕

Great walk for the family. Some cliff edges so look after the young ones. youtube

A fun walk.
Not as hard as we thought it would be.
You could take little ones on this walk, but be careful near the top as there are cliff-edge walking near the top.

We went during the week and it was not too busy. There was a lot of rubbish on the shoulder, where the track stops. We picked up a lot, which was a real shame.

Highlight of the walk was seeing a lyrebird scrounging around.

Great walk great views.

Was a bit busy so had to park down the road 800m from carpark. Great walk with phenomenal views - 360degrees. Probably the best views we have seen on a hike so far. Was 9.59km for us due to parking 2hrs 25mins.

Vic and Ale on 30 May, 2020

nice walk beautifull views fire hasn't burnt much this side of the gap

Apples on 27 May, 2020

We took 3.5 hours for this. Took our time and a 5yo in tow. We took 100 pictures and spent 30 min + at the top.
This is one of the best views I have seen in a while. Especially for such an "easy" ascent.
Only had to carry the little one for the last 800 meters and another 500 meters in between.
Keep a firm handle on the kids on the last 20 meters.
There is no railing and it goes down steeeeep.
But all up It's a safe and easy walk. Bit long for a 5yo but definitely not hard .

Did this walk this morning, was lucky to snag a park in the parking area as it was chockers!Trail is good, incline is gradual so it is definitely doable! Views breathtaking. Chilly up top, take a jacket even if you dont think youll need it!

renaeb on 24 May, 2020

This was quite a nice walk. And the views from Mt Cordeaux were great. We stopped at Mt Cordeaux on the way to Bare Rock/Morgan's Walk, which is a highly recommended extension if you have the time to do so.

Marty MH on 24 May, 2020

Nice walk this morning. Car park full at 7am. Was bursting at the seams when I finished at midday. Track good. Couple of trees down but easy to navigate over them. Mostly walking in rainforest with a few sunny parts.

Minnie on 22 Mar, 2020

Beautiful walk, defined bush path the whole way. The view at the end is lovely, my husband and I took up some food and a picnic blanket and enjoyed the 360 degree views. Take a jacket as it can get a little cold and foggy up there. Would definitely recommend this walk.

Kristy on 7 Mar, 2020

Great walk after the rain. Heaps of waterfalls on the way up. Summit was covered in cloud so no view except cloud. Highlight was walking up close to a Albert's lyrebird
