Easy to combine this on the way back from The Pyramid, as it was all downhill! This was our last walk over a two week road trip with the grandchildren out from the Sunshine Coast to Dubbo and back. Final tally was 26 walks covering 70km. Wow. |

This was a 'bucket' list item on our November 17 road trip and we were not disappointed. Must have spent more time climbing over and admiring the structures than it took us to walk in!
Mount Coryah (Mount Kaputar National Park) |

The challenge today is to complete as many of Mount Kaputar's walks as possible. We have earmarked seven, so let's see how we do! This is probably the longest and hardest for the kids, but kept them amused by getting them to work out how old the various Grass Trees were. Great view of the Western Escarpment from the top. |

By far our best walk of the day. Just sitting on top of The Governor, with a sheer drop off in front of you and an outlook across the northern part of Mount Kaputar NP to die for.

Could not get very excited about this one, but if it is there, then you just got to walk it. Think we are now up to walk four for the day, with four to go.

We really enjoyed this one, not only because of the different landscape and adding stones to the cairns, but also the view out to Mt Lindsey to the east and valleys to the south.

Not very inspiring and if we had know that there was no views from the top and only a communications tower, we would not have walk up.

This is a little hidden gem, receiving very little promotion, due to its Aboriginal heritage. But so, so worth a visit if you are in the area.

31 Oct, 2017 |

Unfortunately, due to extreme weather conditions, all the main walks had been closed today for safety reasons. This left us with Wambelong and Whitegum. The lookout was easily the best introduction to what we were missing, with fantastic view of Split Rock, Belougery Spire, Breadknife and many more.

Limited to just two walks today, as a result of the closure of the main walks of safety grounds, due to severe weather conditions, this was a welcome and interesting evening walk from our campsite at Camp Blackman.
Cathedral Rock (Cathedral Rock National Park) |

O.M.G. Started off easy for the first 3km and then all hell broke loose as we negotiate the last 600m with a 80m climb/scramble, clawing our way up through the gigantic boulders, with a final chain traverse around the last boulder before ascending the 'throne'. Keep your nerve Pops, the grandchildren are with us! |

The last of three walks today covering a total of 14.8km, having scrambled up Cathedral Rock and along Ebor Falls, this was an easy if a little longer than expected walk to the top. A few well deserved cold beers were waiting in the esky at Barokee Campground for our return.

We haven't visited this area for over a decade, but now think that we did go to the falls in 2001 and again in 2005. This visit with the grandchildren was 'the best'. There words now mine! Just loved rock hopping the boulders out to the edge of the waterfall, as the water level was pretty low, which made it more fun.

Having been confused by the distance markers and where to climb up, I finally got to the top of this one to place another stone on the cairn and enjoy the great views on what I had thought was a sunny day. However, when I panned around to the east, I was confronted by a huge black thunderstorm cloud heading straight for me. I have never legged it off a mountain so fast in all my life! I don't mind getting wet, but lightning and granite do not mix, as I witnessed in Girraween NP a week later, with a strike hitting The Pyramid. |
