Route/Trail notes

Follow the firebreak behind the sliprail seven hundred meters to the bottom of a rocky ridge.  At a clear signed track on left, take the trail directly up the rocky slope to the summit of Wickham Peak.  Once on top of the peak, for a longer walk follow the Calytrix Circuit signs to add 3.6km's to your walk, making 7kms total.  This trail traverses through sandstone heath country and takes you to Grass Tree Loookout.  Once this circuit is complete, follow the Wickham Peak trail in reverse to return to vehicles and trail head.

Comments

We did this walk with kids aged 13, 11, 8, plus dog. They all enjoyed it and got through it easily. Nice variety climbing up the rocks. Would be a trail running dream exploring the ridge single tracks.

Beautiful scenery

Track is in great condition at the moment. Not a very hard walk for those who hike regularly - a good chance to stretch the legs nearby to Brisbane. Many more tracks to link into here if you want to extend the walk.

Late arvo sun produced spectacular colors on the sandstone formations.

Easy walk.... nice country and views.

Nice easy stroll through the reserve to the top of Wichham peak which offers some average views. It reminded me a bit of Mt Cotton or Mt Elimbah i.e. not all that difficult. The directions listed on the description were accurate, including the google maps link for the starting point. I did the Calytrix circuit as well which was okay, the peak is definitely the highlight but it was nice to extend the walk a bit - otherwise it would have been a pretty short outing. Good walk to do when you are recovering after shoulder surgery like myself - no scrambling and minimal opportunity to trip over.

Great walk! Really challenging, definitely tired after. We took the dogs and they loved it but watch out for the motorbikes as we saw many. Horses too. Recommend bringing a snack and going to the toilet before hand as there are no toilets around. Weird parking on the side of the road, and google maps directions are wrong. But overall good hike!

Took the kids up starting from Quinzeh Creek Rd and continued on to Grass Tree Lookout after Wickham Peak. Lovely walk however Wickham Peak has a lot of broken glass and cans.

I really enjoyed this walk, nice distance, hills weren’t too steep and lovely scenery.

Bobbe on 10 May, 2020

Mainly wide firetrails and not much to see directly from the two lookouts, but still a nice view. I extended my loop on the horse trails, but wouldn't recommend. Again, very wide firetrails and not much to see on the walk. Would be a great area for a decent CX ride, almost all the horse/walking trails loop back on to each other.

An ok walk, not much to see from the lookouts, but was fun scrambling up the rocks. We didn’t find the cave but with 3 kids in tow didn’t want to risk someone falling down the cliffs. There’s not much shade along the walk so be prepared especially if walking during summer, we were lucky enough to have a nice breeze to keep up cool. The track itself was well marked and in parts it was wide enough for a car, but actually finding it from the road was more challenging, not really sign posted at all, I just happened to stop where there were some posts marking the conservation park and went from there. There is no actual car park, just parking on the side of the road

Relatively easy walk with a couple of hills. Beautiful flora with many interesting areas. I walked the Wickham Peak trail first and encountered a few people walking their dogs. Went on to Grass Tree Lookout which was very beautiful and followed a narrow trail further on to a secluded area that was alive with birdlife. Continued on the Caltryx Circuit and managed to finish the entire walk in 1.5 hrs walking briskly. I imagine e it would have been spectacular a few weeks earlier when the masses of acacia was in bloom. A great short walk that was better than I expected.

Nice winters walk!

Walk was alright. Got a little lost in following what we thought was a path that led us straight into bush. Managed to find our way back after about half an hour following the water runoffs.

Watch out for the naughty trail bike riders too!

Hi, my dad and I did this walk in 2 hours. I'm only 8. There is only one real steep bit, and the rest is pretty easy walk. Some nice sandstone rock on the track.

Great walk, did an extended loop further south too

drewmac on 25 Mar, 2018

nice walk through open forest, easy to follow well marked trails. Instructions are correct - easy to find.

jearlybird on 21 Jun, 2017

Nice simple walk with a decent short incline to the top. Lots of places to scramble around on the rocks along the cliffs edge for a bit of fun. Not an incredible walk but still enjoyable.

danielsmith1 on 8 May, 2017

I did this in combination with the caves route also in this park. The incline wasn't very steep - I'd classify this as an easy walk.

The actual Peak Lookout isn't that amazing, I actually preferred the smaller 'grass tree lookout' on the Calytrix circuit.

The bushland is nice and I'd recommend this walk if you're after something not very strenuous or challenging.

Juiced Pixels on 12 Mar, 2017

A decent walk. Rock hopping was loads of fun but the views aren't that spectacular. Wouldn't go out of my way for it.
