Dogashima is one of the most famous area on the Izu Peninsula and part of the Fuji-Izu-Hakone national park. Dogashima has interesting rock formations and if the weather is good you can take a boat into the sea cave. It is also home to a land bridge that appears during low-tide which is pretty cool.
Ena Gorge is not a natural gorge, it is actually a dam. If you ignore some of the dam like features, it is pretty cool. Water is a nice colour. Nearby is a shoddy theme park built in the 80s and a random pyramid. A lot of oddities, something for everyone.
A very chill walk around the peninsula-like thing.
A secret hike out the back of Ena-kyo service area. Nothing of particular note. Just some trees.
Fujimidai is part of the Chuo alps quasi national park in Gifu/Nagano prefectures. It literally translates as Mt. Fuji viewing area. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Fuji way out in the distance. From the top of Fujimidai, it was 360 MLG no-scope views of the central and southern alps. It's pretty spectacular and worth the hike.
Fukuurajima is an island that you can reach from the Japanese mainland via bridge. Matsushima is considered to be one of the 3 views of Japan. The bay is littered with small islands that house unique vegetation. Fukuurajima itself is one of those islands. It has been designated a prefectural park and is protected. On the island you can view the unique plantlife and get some views of the Matsushima Bay. For the best view of the bay, I recommend taking a boat tour.
A hike up Mount Inari through thousands of Torii gates part of one of the most famous temples in Japan.
Gohou no Taki is a series of seven waterfalls located in Yaotsu in Gifu Prefecture. In the mid-1500s, the waterfalls here were used as a special training site making them also historically important.
Gozaisho is a beautiful mountain tucked away in rural Mie, near the border of Aichi and Gifu. It has a collection of unqiue rock formations and is the starting point for some great hikes across the Suzuka Mountain range. For those who are too lazy to do the hike or are using it as a base to do something a bit longer, you can take the ropeway to the top. During winter, the peak turns into a mini ski field.
This hike is nothing special. It is one of the more boring parts of the Nakasendo with the Iroha tea house being the only thing that is slightly interesting.
A nice hike up Iwamura Castle with sweeping views of the Gifu countryside. Lots of history.
