The Pinnacle and Fairview Mountain via Valley Break (Springbrook National Park)
14 Jan, 2026
Hard
6km return
2.5 hrs
The first section up to Fairview Mt. is a boring fitness track. (Very steep 4 WD track.)
The rest of the way is very nice. Well marked with orange ribbon where ever you need it and always following the top of the ridge.
180 m north of Pinnacle you come to a first rock. Easy climb 2 m high. No marks anymore. Stay west of the highest part of the ridge. Its partly overgrown by grass trees. First stunning view to Gold Coast with a 2 m high "pin" rock in foreground.
Now follow the top of the ridge to the Pinnacle rock. Dont try to climb the northern end to the top if you are not a climber. Follow the path west of the rock to the southern end of the rock where it is easy to climb up. (The path is overgrown by grass trees but never more then 3 m away from the rock.)
I followed the nice ribbon marked track to Warrie Circuit. Including Warrie Circuit and the way back to Austinville road it is 20 km in total. I was happy to start at 5 a.m. to hop on my bicycle at 4 p.m. Long but not exausting.

Really nice and well maintained walk. I made it 20 km return having started at Austinville road (170 m a.s.l.) via Pinnacle. This is a good choise for people getting there by bicycle or willing to save fuel.

Amazing walk. Huge trees. There are still no prohibitive signs all the way up. There were remains of barbed wire on some fence posts. It is completely removed. All Gates are open. I never had the feeling to disturb anybodys property. The way down is "closed". (Why??)
All the track is well marked. "Private Property" is marked all along the way. There is no need to disobey these signs.
The track is in good condition. It was dry. I caught 2 leeches in a short section of calf high gras. 2 trees laid accross the track, easy to walk around or through. No snakes sighted.
On return I was so happy to cool down in the creek before hopping on my bicycle.
