Apsley River Waterhole and Gorge (East Coast)
20 Dec, 2019
Medium
7km return

A well signed Track with yellow markers. Saw some birdlife but less than expected. The walk along the riverbed was hard on the feet but was lovely walking through the gorge. Beautiful waterholes. There is a toilet and information shed just near the car park.
Whalers Lookout (East Coast)

A great little walk to stretch the legs and see the whole of Bicheno. A well signed short gravel path up to the lookouts with terrific views.
Three Falls Trail (Mount Field National Park)
18 Dec, 2019
Medium
6.5km return
2.25 hrs
This loop track is terrific! Russell Falls is amazing & had a lot of water flowing over. About 200 stairs later, you get to Horseshoe Falls then a couple of kms later, Lady Barron Falls. The remainder of the walk has the biggest staircase I’ve ever seen - about 240 stairs and then an amazing walk through open forest where we saw some terrific birdlife. The visitor centre has a cafe, information centre, toilets and a gift shop.
South Cape Bay Track (Southwest National Park)
17 Dec, 2019
Medium
16km return

Loved this walk! A huge variety of birds and plants especially wildflowers! Saw a large black tiger snake on the path who quickly slithered away when I got closer. The walk is moderate but wear good quality hiking shoes as there’s a lot of rocks and tree roots to walk over. The muddy tracks were everywhere but it was good to see hikers still treading along the mud and not making new tracks to avoid dirtying their boots. The view at South Cape Bay is impressive and was wonderful to sit and have a quick bite to eat. It took us 5 hours with quite a few stops for photos along the way.

Plenty of spaces to park at the start and there is a toilet and information sign just behind the Ranger’s Station. Camping is also permitted.
Mt. Wellington - Zigzag/Icehouse loop (Wellington Park)
16 Dec, 2019
Medium

Made it to the Mt Wellington summit - started at Fern Tree and walked along the Fern Glade Track, Radford’s Track, Pinnacle Track then Zig-Zag Track to the summit and return. A total of 12.5km. There are so many walking Track options in Wellington Park. This return trip we did was challenging and our GPS devices tell us we climbed 188 flights of stairs. Amazing views from the top but the flora and fauna on the way up was even better! The fern trees at the start were incredible!
Warrie Circuit (Springbrook National Park)
28 Nov, 2019
Hard
17km return

Did this walk today in 3.5 hours. This is one of my favourite tracks for the beautiful trees, birdlife, wallabies, lizards and of course the waterfalls - of which there is still a trickle flowing over each one. Again, it’s about 14k not 17. It’s fairly easy going for the first half (if walking anti-clockwise) and the second half has some switchbacks which will get your heart rate up. If it didn’t take me an hour and a half to get there, I’d go every week!
Egernia Circuit (D'Aguilar National Park)

An easy short loop at the start of the Thylogale Track. I started with this one then continued onto the Thylogale then Pitta Circuit which was 11.5km return from Jolly’s Lookout. Wonderful and quiet. Loads of birds and wallabies.

Beautiful short track in the rainforest. I loved the boardwalk around the huge strangler fig. Some great educational signs for kids and grown ups! I did this as part of an 11.5km return walk from Jolly’s Lookout (Egernia Circuit, Thylogale Track & Pitta Circuit). Very quiet in the morning and loads of wildlife.
Devils Break Loop (Moggill Conservation Park)
13 Oct, 2019
Medium
5.8km return
90 mins
We parked in the car park off Chalcot Road, Anstead. Walked anti-clockwise along Nursery Break, Devils Break, Powerline Road then a clockwise loop of Powerline Road, Rocky Mountain & Lantana Break. Then along Ugly Gully Break and onto Centre Road which took us back to the car park. Lots of wildlife (birds, lace monitors), certainly challenging in some sections but we would do this one again for the peacefulness and nice wide tracks. Definitely not easy though...should be graded at a medium. Total distance was 11km.

We parked in the car park off Chalcot Road, Anstead. Walked anti-clockwise along Nursery Break, Devils Break, Powerline Road then a clockwise loop of Powerline Road, Rocky Mountain & Lantana Break (I would hate to tackle the hill on Lantana Break the opposite direction!). Then along Ugly Gully Break and onto Centre Road which took us back to the car park. Lots of wildlife (birds, lace monitors), certainly challenging in some sections but we would do this one again for the peacefulness and nice wide tracks. Definitely not easy though...should be graded at a medium! 11km total distance.
Blue Lake (Kaboora Track) (North Stradbroke Island - Minjeeribah)
7 Oct, 2019
Medium
5.2km return
90 mins
Completed this walk as part of a 14km trip in the area. Started with the Kabul Track, then a side trip to a lookout then returned to the car park via Kaboora Track. We took a water taxi to the island then had a taxi drive us to the car park to start the walks. We also arranged for the taxi to return after about 4hrs (limited phone reception) to collect us and drive us back to the ferry! Blue Lake is really lovely to see however Tortoise Lagoon was dry. Wear proper shoes as the snakes are on the move... in fact our taxi driver told us to keep an eye out for death adders as they’re also around...
Enoggera Reservoir Circuit (Brisbane Forest park D'Aguilar National Park)
5 Oct, 2019
Medium
10km return
2.5 hrs
Started on the Araucaria Track but then moved to the Link Track and did the whole circuit. Ended up being 10.9km...a long dry, warm walk but completed in 2hr 20min. I’m reasonably fit but found some of the hills to be killers...they’re just not nice! The signage is non-existent so you need to regularly refer to a map. I have absolutely no desire to do this one again...
Moss Garden (Carnarvon National Park)

Medium

This is a must do side trip off the main path through Carnarvon Gorge. It’s a beautiful spot to pause and marvel at nature! The moss is luminous and despite a few steps, it’s absolutely unmissable.
Amphitheatre (Carnarvon National Park)

Amazing! We had the place to ourselves so we were able to sit and enjoy the sounds of nature for 10 minutes. This is a fantastic side trip, nothing difficult but the steps at the end are steep so you need to be cautious.
Mickey Creek (Carnarvon National Park)

A great, easy 3km return hike with a small amount of rock hopping. Quite picturesque and we were fortunate to see an echidna walking along near us before he/she started curling and burrowing for their life! Definitely worth doing when in the area.
Big Bend (Carnarvon National Park)
26 Sep, 2019
Hard
19.4km return
8 hrs
A moderate walk - nothing strenuous. About 20 river crossings so make sure you’re wearing waterproof shoes. We camped at Big Bend for a night and were lucky enough for a storm to pass over with lightening lighting up the gorge. A wonderful spot for a hike and camp. We had our GPS tell us it was 21km return trip to the visitor centre (without side trips). Lots of fresh running water but we still filtered it and treated with micropur tablets.
Oxley Creek Common-Secret Forest Walk (Brisbane City Council Local Walks)

Have walked this a few times now. Always see a wide array of birdlife. Easy and wide track but it can get hot as there isn’t much shade for most of the walk.

A terrific walk to do when in Canberra! I also added on walking to Parliament House which made the walk just under 10km. Lots of birds, bunnies & geese...a wonderful walk.

Walked this from the CBD so, a total of 10km. A great walk but very very dry! Also went up the Telstra Tower for brilliant views ($7.50 per adult).
