Wild Horse Mountain (Glass House Mountains National Park)

Good for a stopover/stretch on a long drive. Concreted pathway is steep but doable for most people. Great views at the top. Service station is nearby for refreshments before or afterwards.
The Northbrook River Trail (Northbrook Gorges) (Brisbane Forest park D'Aguilar National Park)
1 Jan, 2018
Medium

We did this hike from Wivenhoe Lookout, straight down to the creek, then through the gorge and up to a carpark that others have mentioned. Definitely wear shoes that have good grip and that you are happy to get wet. Take a dry bag for your car keys, phone and snacks. On our route, we swam through 4 pools (I think). Lots of rock scrambling along the way. Really fun place for anyone who wants a challenge. It rained whilst we were down there and waterfalls appeared in the gorge sections - simply stunning. I don't recommend going in the rain, but just after rain would be great. It was mid 30's in Brisbane, but through the gorge it was cooler, and there's lots of water to cool you down if you do get hot.
Champagne Pools Boardwalk (Great Sandy National Park)

Easy

We do this walk a few times a year. Wear thongs, the boardwalks can get hot. Take some goggles or mask - there are usually hundreds of fish in the rockpools. Great for any age as long as you can walk up and down stairs.
Mt Ngungun (Glass House Mountains National Park)
Dec, 2017
Medium
2.8km return
90 mins
Everybody does this track, many do it just for training/exercise so it can get busy. Sunrise is often packed up the top. Nice family walk. My 75 year old mother made it up last year. It was slow with lots of stops but she made it! Take water and a snack for the top. It's nice to stay up there for a bit and admire the view.
Mt Coochin (East and West Peaks) (Glass House Mountains National Park)
Oct, 2017
Medium
2.8km return
2 hrs
Steep climb up, with a bit of rock scrambling between peaks. Quieter mountain, not many people seem to climb it. We went up one way, crossed the saddle and down the other way. Can't really get lost on this hike, if you reach a fence just follow it back to the carpark :)
Tibrogargan Circuit (Glass House Mountains National Park)
Oct, 2017
Easy
3.3km return
90 mins
Easy walk. I found it quite boring, but I prefer mountains with views. This would be nice if you can't walk up mountains. Very peaceful.
Mt Tibberoowuccum (Glass House Mountains National Park)
Oct, 2017
Medium
1.7km return
1 hr
As others have said, can be difficult to find entry point. Once you find it though, it's a nice climb up with good views, and is usually quiet, probably because it's not clearly marked like other trails are. You can see people (dots) climbing Tibrogargen from here.
Fraser Island (Great Sandy National Park)
Oct, 2017
Medium
76.6km one-way
One of my favourite hikes. We just did 4 nights because I was with my 3 kids and didn't want to overdo their first big hike. We caught the barge to Wangoolba Creek, then hiked to Central, did day hike to Lake McKenzie/Basin, then headed south past lakes to Boomanjin for overnight, then to Dilli (hot showers!!) and then out through Hook Point. We all loved the experience.
Mount Coolum (Sunshine Coast)

Great walk for families with children who are able to walk independently up hills. Great views. Can be slippery on the way down, wear shoes with grippy soles.

Big Bend (Carnarvon National Park)

Walked here with our kids just on a day hike. There's a lovely little campground with a toilet and it's next to a nice rock pool for swimming or for topping up your drinking water. Great day hike for those over about 10 years old, younger if they're used to hiking.

Went here on our way to Big Bend. Great artwork and worth visiting.

Definitely stop here. It's nice and cool on a hot day. Sound is beautiful if you know how to sing (sounds terrible when children try singing though!). Steep ladder to enter, may not suit those scared of heights.
Baloon Cave (Carnarvon National Park)

Easy walk, not much to see when you get there. Track was nice though.

If you like steps and a great view then this is for you. Hiked it once or twice a day when we visited - so yes I liked it. Great exercise and easy hike if you can climb lots of steps. Nice views at the top in a few directions. You can see the campground from up there - it's fun to try and wave to your fellow campers from the top.

If you only visit one place, go here! Nice cool stopover. We stayed for over an hour just relaxing in the shade and watching the water flow through the rocks. Definitely visit this one!
