Pardalote Walk

Toowoomba

This walk connects several main features of Picnic Point Parklands. It starts from Lions Park (the rocket ship playground) then passes a lookout and a waterfall before leading along the edge of the escarpment with views out over the Lockyer Valley. It then proceeds downhill through eucalypt forest to reach the new upgraded lookout at the bottom of Tobruk Memorial Drive.

Officially listed as Grade 3/Medium difficulty (some uneven surfaces and steep inclines), this track is interesting and achievable for walkers of all ages with a moderate fitness level.

Route/Trail notes:

Starting at Lions Park, follow the footpath uphill towards Bill Gould's lookout then continue past the waterfall (large stepping stones cross the pond at the base of the falls). The path leads through a shady grove of fig trees then changes to a dirt track, travelling below the cafe along the edge of the escarpment. After the cafe, turn left at the stairs and continue down the hill until you reach the lookout - families with young children may choose to omit this section of the walk as it is quite steep. Return via the same path.

Did this as a part of the Picnic Point circuit with the adjoining tracks. Very scenic

This was an enjoyable walk along the range with stunning views for most of the walk. Small hill on the way back but overall a pretty walk with nice breezes even in the heat of summer.

At present partly closed due to Tobrook lookout upgrade.

The top section between the waterfall and the cafe is a nice easy walk with kids, with amazing views (though quite overgrown today). Once you head down the hill, the path is steep and can be slippery underfoot. A big slog for little legs to make it back up to the playground/carpark.

Nice views. Make sure to use some sort of mozzie spray, they are huge in the area. Different levels of walks. Some winding paths.

Quick fun and easy hike if you don't have much time. Loads of Lantana weeds unfortunately but still great to have this at the front door of a town as big as Towoomba.
