A relatively short walk, but challenging, rainforest walk, with great views as a reward. You'll need a GPS app, or good off-track navigational skills in places.
Park at the Cougal Cascade at the end of Currumbin Currumbin Creek Road. It's sealed road all the way.

From the carpark, follow the sealed path above Currumbin Creek, towards the old sawmill. Just before the path circles around the sawmill display, look for an obvious track on the left (to the left of a short section of fence). A few metres in, you'll reach a Qld Govt sign, which says "You are now entering a remote area." The track splits behind the sign and the track on the right leads to Boyds Butte. This track follows above the creek for 50 metres or so, then drops down to the creek, which needs to be crossed (the rocks are slippery, so be careful!). It's a bit hard finding the footpad on the opposite side of the creek, but it's about 5 metres upstream from where a small tributary joins the main stream. The footpad then becomes fairly obvious, and pink and orange tape starts to make an appearance. The track follows a ridge that heads in a northwesterly direction and leads to the base of the butte. For a large part of the way you're on an old, often very steep, logging track, but the track then becomes a less distinct footpad. Quite a few treefalls across the track can make navigation difficult, but you can usually find where people have found a way around. The tape markers can be a bit hit and miss.
Eventually, after a steep bit of scrambling, you arrive at the cliffs of the butte, which run in a southwest-northeast direction. The butte consists of a number of pinnacles, so there are several ways to reach the top. When you reach the cliffs, go to the right (heading northeast). Tape markers are helpful, but it can be tricky finding the best way up. The way I went led towards a summit at the northeast end of the butte, with views of Springbrook, West Cougal and the Gold Coast, but another group there on the day, climbed up onto the middle of the butte via a small cliff next to an old log. Both ways required us to be quite careful, but there was no real exposure. Pay attention of your route going up, because it can be tricky finding the right way back down.
Retrace your steps to return to the carpark, and if it's a hot day, you can cool off in a beautiful rock pool!
