Spent 3 days doing sections of the Fraser Island Great Walk Day 1 Kingfisher Bay to Central Station (22 km) , initially started well but about 1 hour in hit a sign saying track closed so we were forced to follow a 4WD track which was quiet soft , exited at Lake McKenzie and got back on to the GW track across lots of hills down to Central Station, Overnighted at main campsite as the walkers campsite seemed very neglected

Fantastic Beautiful place Day 2 Central Station to Lake McKenzie (14 km) lovely walk through the rain forest, long smooth inclines and just strikingly beautiful scenery Overnight at the walkers camp at Lake McKenzie, The camp appears unkempt but once in it is well laid out ,no potable water at Lake McKenzie except the lake itself, Sunrise over the lake well worth the early start. |

Day 3 Lake McKenzie to Kingfisher (14km) returned along the previous days track about 1 km to connect to the track to Kingfisher Bay , nice track fairly flat well marked through melaleuca scub at the end we cut down to McKenzie Jetty only to find the closed track was only about 100mtrs long and had we ignored the sign it would have made day 1 much easier . last 2.5 kms along the beach to finish at Kingfisher for coffee and to await the barge back to the mainland

Well signposted walk on the main track. The return leg offers an option of an alternative route of 4 kms. The alternate route was more difficult than the main track however there were numerous waterfalls on the route that one could see but not get to. The river had several access points in the early sections of the alternate route. Large sections of the alternate route are uphill so it is advisable to carry plenty of water if you plan to walk this route |
