Fantastic views from the top of Mt Walsh. The climb can be difficult up at the last part. The trail is easy to follow if you have basic trail sense and is marked with flag tape and arrows painted onto rocks. No ropes are need but hand over hand climbing is required for the last part.

Getting there:

Drive from Biggenden towards Maryborough along Maryborough-Biggenden Road and approx 2.6km out of Biggenden you turn right into National Park Road (this is well signed), then follow National Park Roadd to the end where you will reach Mt Walsh Natiional Park (Mt Walsh Section) picnic area car park. Summit track starts from there.

Maps:

Mount Walsh National Park

Route/Trail notes:

The first part of the walk is quite easy through bush with a well defined trail but as the walk ascends you need to climb over rocks and through tight crevasses. The top of the mountain is quite flat and can be explored easily, upon your return some sliding is required during the descent. Allow a good half day or full day if intending to hike in surrounding bushland.

Permits/Costs:

None. There is a bush camp towards the Pinacles.

Other References/Comments:

None made.

Early start for this pretty tough going hike , lost of loose rocks on trail and lil climbing involved for last bit , but so worth the views !!!!

Great Hike/Rock scramble with excellent views from the top. Definitely take note of the fact that some basic climbing is required as its not suitable for everybody.

Starts off quite tame and then you reach 'the sign'! the track steepens with loose rocks. Negotiating through some crevices and boulders, you will reach the top and oh, what a view! Lots of rounded large rocky area to explore.

Bloody rocky and bloody tough in hot weather.

I've climbed Mt Walsh four times, all of them excellent! It's pretty tough and the final climb over the rocks is tricky but not too bad. Well worth getting to the top for breathtaking views.

This is a fantastic walk, and well worth the effort. Lot's of options to explore when you reach the "Bluff", and to traverse the Pinnacles from the summit to the car park is a must for only those experienced in navigation, and rock scrambling skills. Biggenden is a great, friendly town, with lot's of walking options. We love it that much, we bought a house there for our future retirement. Now, only if the Govt will let me!
