Mounds Walk

North Island NZ

Debris avalanches during Ruapehu’s periods of volcanic activity are believed to have formed these mounds thousands of years ago. The top of the track offers good views of the volcanoes and surrounding area.

None.

Other References/Comments:

Disappointing was the fact that the Information Centre did not have a paper version of the numerous walks available in and around the township and I had to take a photo of a wall map in the Centre to see where I could go. Plan ahead by downloading the ‘walks’ link above.

Comments

Staying in Whakapapa Village for an Alpine Experience for a few days gave me an opportunity to cover five local walks in the same day. This was the second, which was a very short walk up to the Mounds lookout.
