Wentworth Pass

New South Wales

This challenging walking track, from Conservation Hut, explores the magical, upper section of Valley of the Waters in Jamison Valley at Blue Mountains National Park. The circuit continues up Slacks Stairs. Wentworth Pass takes in scenic waterfalls and valley views as well as magnificent open forests and dense rainforest.

The track leads to Empress lookout with exceptional views, before it plunges deep into the valley. You’ll notice the eucalypts and angophoras give way to lush fern trees and moss-covered rocks. Everywhere you look there’s water; from the gentle splashing of creeks to the dull roar of cascading waterfalls.

The pool beneath Wentworth Falls is a perfect spot to relax and revel in the moist cool because from here on, the only way is up. Taking the Slack stairs you’ll join National Pass before arriving at Wentworth Falls picnic area. Head to the ‘Hut’ for an easy lunch or unpack the picnic hamper.

Totally awesome walk. This is the second time we’ve walked this track and live it. Last time we did it clockwise starting at Wentworth Falls car park. This time we started at the same car park but headed towards the conservation hut along the shortcut track and then down into the valley from there. We thought this was a better option because the track up towards the conservation hut is very long and gruelling. The track up from the bottom of Wentworth falls is steeper but involves steps and ladders. It doesn’t take nearly as long. This track does take in part of the National Pass, but this part is open. The National Pass is incredible and this section of it definitely won’t disappoint.

Did this walk as a reccie for the Gold Coast Midweek Walking Group. Four of us started at the carpark and headed down to the Wentworth Falls Lookout in light rain. We went down to the falls crossing, switched back down the incredible Slack's stairs and the accompanying scary but safe ladder system ending up at the base of these amazing falls. After a few creek crossings and more waterfalls, we started to climb in heavier rain up beside the equally amazing Empress Falls. This one of my favourite walks which I will have to do again as mist prevented any hope of seeing the amazing views from the lookouts.

A beautiful and challenging walk with many waterfalls to see. Slacks Stairs (ladders) was a little scary but well worth it. Highly recommend a day or two after rain.
