Spectacular views of the volcanic landscape of Warrumbungle National Park await you at Whitegum Lookout. It provides you with a perspective of the many other walks and climbs that the Park has to offer.
From Coonabarabran, travel along Timor Road, which then becomes John Renshaw Parkway. Once inside the Park, the lookout car park is about 3km on your left; a total distance of 37km.
From Tooraweenah, follow John Renshaw Parkway right the way through the Park to the far end and then turn right into the lookout car park; a distance of about 45km.
As you drive in from the east, entertain the children as you follow the 'Virtual Solar System' that leads to Siding Spring Observatory at the Park entrance.

It is a short stroll from the car park to Whitegum Lookout along a sealed pathway. Although there is a slight incline, the path is suitable for wheelchairs and prams and it is an easy walk for children
National Park entry fees apply ($8/vehicle/day in 2017).
For those wishing to stay for a couple of days to explore more of the walks, Camp Blackman provides excellent facilities, with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains as you sit around your campfire.
In January 2013 a catastrophic bush fire destroyed over 90% of the National Park, as well as surrounding properties. Both the habitat and those creatures that lived there were lost, which is evident by the stark landscapes you survey. Regeneration is slow and only nature will help the area recover to its former glory.
