The Forest Path
Royal National Park
Opened in 1886, the Forest Path was once part of a controversial logging site, the first time that logging was stopped in Australia by protest. Now it is a short trail looping around the hill, following the Hacking River. Through a shaded environment of ferns and eucalypts, this walk passes through a very pretty environment that was definitely worth preserving.

Sandstone Overhang - 'The Caves'
Ravensbourne National Park
The Sandstone Overhang is one of the hidden surprises in Ravensbourne National Park. It is reached via the Rainforest and Palm Creek Circuits, at the end of a short side-track. The 'caves' aren't large enough to explore, but there is room for children and adults to sit under the ledge in the shade of the ferns that grow along its rim.
Officially listed as Grade 3/Medium difficulty (includes some steep/natural steps), this track is suitable for walkers with a moderate fitness level.

This walk is the southern most stretch of the Great North Walk and spends much of the time exploring the scenic and historic urban areas around Woolwich and Hunters Hill. Starting at the birth place of modern Sydney you soon enjoy a ferry ride across the world renowned harbour, passing the Opera House and heading under the Harbour Bridge. Once on dry land again you will explore the streets and some lovely pockets of remnant bushland of this peninsula. There are a few chances to stop at a cafe along the way before coming to open area at Boronia Park.

Boronia Park to Lane Cove Weir

This walk gives you the chance to explore the bush and wetlands alongside the Lane Cove River, from Boronia Park to the new underground train station at North Ryde. You will visit several mangrove wetlands, some dry eucalypt forests and have the opportunity to rest and fill up your water bottle at a few well maintained parks. This walk comes with two options:
1. after passing under Epping Road where you take a detour up through the Riverside Corporate Park to Delhi Rd and the North Ryde train station (directions as per link below)
2. after passing under Epping Road continue on through to Lane Cove Wier (directions as per attached GPS). Once arriving at the weir you will need to catch a bus back to North Ryde Train Station.

Lake Wabby Circuit
Great Sandy National Park
Park at the beach and hike up to Lake Wabby , trip starts with a longish walk through some beautiful forests before you reach the sand dunes and the lake. I would suggest that thongs are not a good choice for this walk. A pair of runners would be best for this walk over changeable terrain. As you emerge from the trees and walk out onto what seems like never ending sand dunes, you straight away get that feeling that the walk you just completed was completely worth it.

Mt Walsh Waterfall Creek (Utopia Falls)

This pleasant moderate grade walk to the rock pool area—a nice place to picnic, cool off in the shade beside the rock pools or just enjoy nature.
The walk begins in hoop pine dominated dry rainforest and vine thickets fringing a moist gully. Further on, open forests and grassy woodlands feature and merge into shrubby heath along Waterfall Creek.
The creek cascades through a series of rock pools that have potholed into the granite by years of water erosion. Cabbage palms, (Livistona decora), growing near the rock pools occur here at their most western limit. Further along Waterfall Creek, impressive water gums, (Tristaniopsis laurina), grow to over 25m high and wrap buttressed roots around rocks.
Look for wildlife as you walk. You might see wonga pigeons in the dark shaded understorey of the rainforest or catch a glimpse of white-throated treecreepers in the open forest and woodland. Swamp wallabies also use the track and red-necked wallabies often feed around the rainforest fringes.
Caution is required when accessing the creek as rocks may be slippery and unstable.
