Did the much nicer ridge track to white rock, and took this one back. So busy, I passed hundreds of people on a Sunday morning around 10am.

Interesting walk. Busy track

Did it with my two kids. They loved it so much . But I don’t recommend it to do it in summer.

Plenty of other viewpoints and lookouts overlooking the conservation park that's not White Rock itself! Please respect the Ugarapul people's wishes to not climb the mountain, the same way you wouldn't climb up a church. As an alternative, up the stairs turn left instead of turning right to White Rock, you'll find yourself at the end of the Ridge Hike Trail. Follow the orange triangles up the rock face through a small crevice, and you'll have some equally great views.

Third time we've done this walk. This time we tried for sunset at the top. What an amazing view at that spectacular time of day.
Will definitely be back AGAIN.
Easy to moderate walk

White Rock is located in the city of Ipswich out Springfield way, about 30km south-west of Brisbane.

I took the ridge track to the left which is surprisingly graded a class 5.

It took me from the carpark, around 45 minutes to reach the top and about 30 minutes back.
6.1km round trip.

It did get the heart pumping in places with views when you reach the top over looking Springfield and right the way to town.

On the way back I decided to do a short fast burst up Little White Rock which is only 250m but pretty much straight up.

This hike is not too badly signed but please be mindful that it is our Australian Bush and just gets hotter and hotter throughout the day. I would recommend going early of a morning or late evening. This track is very dry and is covered in bulldust which can be very slippery in places. So take care.
I personally would not grade it a class 5 but I believe an average fitness level would be needed.

nice easy walk for the family. Our 10 & 8 year old sons managed it and I had our 1 year old on the back. Good for beginners like us. on 31 Dec, 2018

Nice easy walk. We circled around the white rock and continued along ridge to meet back up with multipurpose track further along. Added about 2km. See the map before going up the stairs for details. Completed this in 1.5hrs, 9.5km. Be respectful and avoid climbing the white rock. There are other great views further along the ridge also, a seperate rocky ridge that offers good views.

Great walk with some stunning views at the end. The rock itself is bigger then I imagined and the sandstone colours and shapes are beautiful. Walk would not be suitable for very young kids as is wuite long. Heard lots of birds along the way and saw a Eastern Whipbird and a couple of other birds. The path was not that busy considering how beautiful it is. Feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.

Great to see so many families doing this very manageable walk today on ANZAC Day public holiday!
Disgusted to see so many people with dogs, though, when signs say they are not permitted.
Very interesting rock formation to see which many people were climbing, also against park rules.
Am I too much of a goody-goody??

We did the multi use trail to white rock and came back via the Ridge track, was approx 8km on gps. First part very easy along a sandy track until you get closer to white rock where the trail narrows but still well defined. White rock itself is pretty cool and worth having a look. The first section of the Ridge track on the way back involved scrambling up some boulders but the rest of the track wasn't difficult and well defined. Signage is good. When we went the area was a bit stinky (sewerage maybe?) which made the walk not as enjoyable as it would have been otherwise.

Nice hike had some good views

Started when the gates opened. A great and relatively easy walk. A few parts had loose sand to walk through but other than that the path was prominent and clearly marked with arrows.

Taking the long way to White Rock (not the steps) you’ll pass a big rock you can climb to see the views without climbing White Rock itself.

Easy, could run it if we wanted to!

Very easy walking, but not a whole lot to see. I definitely have a preference for the ridge hike.

Tanya on 16 Aug, 2017

Enjoyed it, the rock is certainly something to see. Recommend combining with the ridge hike as per other comments.

Didn't get lost this time!

My first ever 'hike' and also first time at White Rock, I got lost trying to do the 'loop' after taking the stairs. Ended up going back the way I came. Very busy track.
