Mount Coolum

Sunshine Coast

Enjoy a steep trek to the summit of one of the Sunshine Coast’s ancient volcanic domes. Created about 26 million years ago, Mount Coolum is a laccolith, formed when a dome-shaped bulge of magma cooled below the Earth’s surface.
Spectacular coastal views, rare and threatened plants, wildflowers, bird life and geology feature here.

My GPS shows 209 m next to the installation on top.
Enjoyable walk but the view was mostly hindered by the aftermath of a dust storm.
Will be back.
Make sure you bring water with you and put on your hat and sunscreen.

Some new vegetation and more rocks on track and keep off track ropes since closure
30min return

More stairs than a track and quite steep, doesn't take as long as posted but fabulous views on the ways and at the top. Some of the rocks were a bit slippery so I wouldn't recommend it in the wet.

Tough little mountain with gorgeous views of the coast

Quite a busy track - expected as it was the school holidays. Fantastic work being done to upgrade paths!

Stunning views. Busy track.

Nice easy walk, though a bit too much foot traffic for my liking. Good to show newcomers to hiking.

Great walk.

Nice walk, stairs decently spaced even for little legs. Was disappointed in the “locals”. We went up late mid morning with the thought most regulars would have already been up and down by that time. Doing it with a 5 year old we weren’t in a hurry, but other people were. To the point of being quite rude on the trail. Even my 5 year old knows trail etiquette. The view was beautiful, but not sure it was worth it unfortunately.

I love Mount Coolum, excellent to run up and down a few times as an everyday run if you live locally. Well stepped all the way and beautiful views from the top. I took my 65 year old mum up and she did it no problems.

A comfortable walk with medium fitness, a great clear track to walk on with well laid out steps for easy navigation.
Beautiful views both on the way up and at the top!
Take the camera!

Good Easy walk. Sign says two hour return trek but even with moderate fitness we were up in 21 minutes had a look around and took in the spectacular views and then back down in under an hour.
