Mount Coolum

Sunshine Coast

Enjoy a steep trek to the summit of one of the Sunshine Coast’s ancient volcanic domes. Created about 26 million years ago, Mount Coolum is a laccolith, formed when a dome-shaped bulge of magma cooled below the Earth’s surface.

Great walk, fantastic views, but be prepared for a lot of people on the track & at the top. We went first thing in the morning during the week & it was very busy with people going to watch the sunrise. A good walk that gets the heart pumping though, but I wouldn't race to do it again.....too many people.

Good climb physical , busy no weekends or holidays

Very popular walk, and on a beautiful autumn Sunday there was a constant stream of walkers, joggers and runners. Very well constructed rock steps all the way to the top, with plenty of spots to pull over to catch your breath and let the speedsters pass! Spectacular views from the top, and the viewing/sitting area can get very busy too. Might be a bit quieter on a weekday.

Amazing view, tested my conditioning or lack thereof but totally worth it. Trail in excellent condition and while there where load of people they were all friendly and courteous.

Andrew Morgan on 16 May, 2020

Beautiful view at the top!

After a week of rain checked out the waterfall off the cliff

Beautiful sunrise walk. Don’t forget your insect repellent- I was eaten alive by huge mozzies! I found it quite difficult as I am fairly unfit but husband and kids (12&9) managed fine.

Probably my 6th time on this walk. Hadn't been for quite a while and really felt it this time. I managed to get to the summit before sunrise but sadly was an overcast day. Always a great view.

Super busy and hot but as always spectacular views and a great walk.

Do this one weekly. Its a great hike fairly easy but stsill gets the heart pumping. Very busy hike but worth the views.

A fantastic view from the top, but don't fall into the trap of going on a weekend; it is like an amusement park.

This is a highly touristed location so the access is easy with stairs.

I recommend going at night, too.

So many stairs. Good view at the top

Jeffrey Nuttall on 30 Dec, 2019

Steep but fairly easy walk. You can get to the top in under 20 minutes easily if you are reasonably fit. Stairs most of the way. Beautiful view of Coolum from the top.

Mount Coolum. Relatively easy climb with a stunning view! (1.8km return/45mins for me).

Remi (Frog n Roo) on 17 Dec, 2019

Great views from top, a bit hazy that day due to bushfire smoke but well worth it

Bribie 61 on 10 Dec, 2019

Easy steep climb with great views from the top. Ideal place for a quick fitness jaunt as well as great for sunrises and sunsets

Canuckaroo on 22 Nov, 2019

Nice easy walk left to walk up at 4am to get the sunrise

Korina Meagher on 14 Nov, 2019

Go early to beat the crowds.

Danny on 6 Oct, 2019

Do this one every time when I’m in coolum. It’s a steep but not dangerous walk. Lots of stairs. Only takes about 15-20 mins to get up there; but if you have bad knees like me, the descent takes longer because of all of the stairs
