Getting there:

Travel south from Rathdowney on the Mount Lindesay Highway and turn right onto the Boonah-Rathdowney Road (R93). Turn left down Upper Logan Road and right onto Seidenspinner Road. Follow that road for 1.5kms, then turn left down a dirt road (Drynans Hut Road) where you will eventually come to a gate. You can either park here or continue down further (making sure to close the gate behind you) until you get to a Private Property gate (photo in description). It appears that so long as you don't go past this 2nd gate, you are not crossing private property, and there is space to park here without blocking the gate.

Route/Trail notes:

Follow the fire trail over Mount Barney Creek then continue on it as it follows Paddy's Gully. Before the fire trail begins to rise in a series of switchbacks take the path which branches off to the right and quickly deposits you into the creek bed. From here rock hop up the creek until you reach the falls. You can retrace your steps to the car or you can cut out of the gully by ascending up the reasonably step Southwestern side. When you reach the top of the ridge good views can be found back into the gully and North to Mount Maroon and after that there are more views East and out to Mount Barney. From here rejoin the fire trail following it back down the switch backs passing the turn off you took earlier and following it the rest of the way out.

Not sure why more people are not doing this walk. Great variety of scenery and the waterfall is quite spectacular when the water is flowing. Walked up fire trail to the top of the waterfall, then scrambled down the river right wall. There is a faint footpad visible from the top of the waterfall to the spot to start scrambling / climbing down. Nice sized pool at the base of the falls to have a swim and break for lunch. Rock hopped down the creak to rejoin the fire trail and walk back out. Not as much water as lower portals but defiantly more secluded, only saw one other group on trail in the morning.

We followed the fire trail up the switchback and turned right where you end up at the top of the falls, no water was flowing but nice views. After that we found a gully to scramble down on the river right to almost the base of the falls, was nice to chill out there, almost no water trickling though. Did rock hopping 1/3 of the way back until rejoined the fire trail all the way back to the car. Enjoyed the hike!
