Getting there

Get the barge over to The Wrecks just north of Tangaloom

Route/Trail notes

We started off where the barge drops off at The Wrecks. Head south through Tangalooma Resort (ignore the signs saying it's for residents only, you're bypassing the resort itself).

South of Tangalooma at around (-27.189341°, 153.367931°) you will find a set of steep stairs taking you up to The Desert. Then it's down in to the desert and across to the car park (check out the fulgurite caused by lightning strikes along the way).

Follow the vehicle track from the car park for a short way until you get to the start of the walking trail at around -27.192309°, 153.386067°.

Then it's about 10km to Rous Battery and the campground. There are a variety of structures left over from WW2 to explore.

There is a water tap fed from underground (treat before drinking).

Permits/Costs

Need a permit for camping at the Rous Battery campground, cost is around $7pp.
