Daves Creek Circuit

Lamington National Park

Starting near the Teahouse at the top car park at Binna Burra, the Dave's Creek Circuit track starts some two kilometres along the Border track and then branches off and follows the Ships Stern circuit track before branching off again. Well sign posted, good tracks and some good views from the Numinbah lookout. There is also a small cave side track that is sign posted - Molongolee Cave - detour right at the sign. On the way back don't miss "Surprise Rock".
There are no steep ascents or descents, a reasonably gentle, undulating track.

Route/Trail notes

Don't miss climbing Suprise Rock for a great view.  When you see the sign continue along the path about 200m when you see the fork take the path that heads towards the rock.  You will see a short path where you can scramble up the rock.

Completed this walk twice in April. Beautiful walk. Saw snakes both times. Love the way to vegetation changes. A great walk with some ascent but not difficult.

Favourite walk at Binna Burra. Be sure to go anti-clockwise around the circuit so you are always facing the view

Great walk! Took us almost 5h at a very leisurely pace with frequent stops. Expected more of a gradient but walk was pretty flat throughout. You pass through lots of different kinds of vegetation which keeps things interesting. Started at 8am on a Sunday and didn't encounter anyone else for the majority of the walk, until we rejoined the border track on the way back to Binna Burra. Quite a few nice picnic spots around the 5km mark. We chose a little lookout to have stop at (around the 4.7km mark, where the track splits and the right one takes you to the lookout a few metres down the path). But there's also Molongolee Cave and Picnic Creek just a bit further along - they both offer rocks/logs for seating.

Spotted quite a bit of wildlife. A lyrebird just after the turnoff from the Border Track and several pademelons, lizards & snakes. And of course you're always surrounded by birds.
Already planning on doing this walk again!

We completed this walk within 4hrs during torrential rain. It was still quite pleasant in the rain despite a couple of leeches here and there. Also each lookout was a complete whiteout which was slightly disappointing but we did take refuge in the cave for a while.

We saw a lyrebird! Stoked! And 2 of the spiny blue crays :) Very lucky!

Completed this circuit in 4 hours with my 8 year old son. Lots of mud after the recent rain, but fantastic views from Numinbah Lookout and the top of Surprise Rock.

Great walk, Surprise Rock has an awesome 360 view

As Ships Stern was closed due to storm damage we chose this walk instead. Although the track notes state that this is the most botanically diverse walk in the park I was not expecting such a difference throughout the walk. A very interesting walk with great views.

A beautiful walk, a bit muddy after the recent rain. Lovely views and a variety of forests.

Great walk, not many leeches, bit foggy early on. Moonlight cave had to be the best part of the circuit

Really enjoyed this walk. Lots of different terrain. We expected to see the creek, but you don't. Surprise Rock is great though. Don't miss it!

A good daytrip to end the year. The views and the cave are great!

Great walk to stretch out the legs. Not much climbing or descending and the little scramble was a bit of fun.

Returned to Binna Burra this weekend to stay in the campground and decided to do this walk again to show off the views from Surprise Rock, started the walk just on lunch time, had lunch at mooloongee cave and was back by beer o'clock to have a shower and sit around the campfire.

one of my favourite walks. It passes through several habitat zones and offers stunning views. it is an easy walk but don't for get to climb the rocks to see a vista from Byron to South Stradbroke Island

DaveKIng on 1 Sep, 2012

Started this walk about midday the air is chilly up here and there is a slight breeze. This walk has a bit of everything and enjoyed all it has to offer, had lunch at molongolee cave then continued on to Numinbah lookout, then on up to the volcanic dyke known as Surprise Rock...great views of the coast are to be had from here, surfers paradise, stradbroke, and views of nsw's,...spent a fair bit of time up here and explored the track to the end where you can climb down the tree to continue the walk...The rest of this walk was completed in the fading light as we exited the rainforest just on 5:30pm or so....
