Goolman Lookout via Rocky Knoll

Ipswich - Flinders Goolman Conservation Estate

Entry is from Hardings Paddock Picnic Area

An alternative and slightly longer route to Goolman Lookout
skirting around the base of the Rocky Knoll. Be weary that this has some steep sections. To avoid slipping down the slope It is better to go via the Goolman Lookout track then return via Rocky Knoll.

Steep climb, levels out for a while and a final steep pinch up to lookout. Nice walk, but take repellent or you'll be carried away by March Flies.

It is a fairly straight forward track.

Came here as a plan B hike since the entrance to Flinders Peak was flooded. Took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes starting from hardings paddock picnic area. Nothing too interesting, trail is straightforward and nothing special. Couple of steep hills but that's about it. Views from the lookout were pretty good but alas, there were a lot of trees/foilage in the way.

Accidentally took the Level 4 track - a bit steep. The Level 3 track on the way back was more my speed - didn’t feel like I was gonna roll my ankle. Lovely quiet area - nice facilities for a lunch after the hike.

An enjoyable walk. We went in a clockwise direction via Rocky Knoll first then onto the lookout. The track had recently been graded so coming down was easy on a mostly smooth path. The way down was steeper than the track up and we found this much easier to manage. Recommend going clockwise via Rocky Knoll first. Took an hour up and 40mins down with 3 kids in tow.

Good walk with great paths and good views at the top. Steep bits but manageable.

Glorious day for walking. Did this walk by walking in on the Goolman Lookout trail and returning via the Rocky Knoll trail. Approximately 9.1Km. The bush is very dry.

Pleasant walk and a generous day use area invites you to stay a bit longer.

Took the family who did it with no trouble (two 7yo and a 9yo). Nice views from the top but not the most exciting walk we've done.

A few good hills, but overall not difficult.

Tough but worth it.

You will find the entry to Goolman Circuit at the picnic area of Hardings Paddock out towards Peak Crossing 🐝🌱

This hike is about 6km round trip 👟
The track is a shared track with bike riders 🚴‍♂️ and a horse trail 🐎 It is well signed but I think it would be slippery in the dry due to bulldust.

This hike is quite steep in places and it definitely got my heart racing 🥵

There is a nice bit of a view from up the top with lots of tree's around 🌳 but nice to sit in the shade and catch your breath 🌬

I would suggest doing this one early of a morning in cooler weather as there is a lot of scrub 🍂

Perfect time of year to get out and explore new places in this beautiful backyard of ours
Enjoy 💕

Good afternoon walk

Pleasant 2 hour loop walk on nice wide, well maintained trail. Some elevation change but fairly easy compared to nearby Flinders Peak.

Had the entire walk to ourselves today not a soul in sight. Nice easy to follow track although if you do the circuit we did it left about via Rocky Knoll, noticed on the way back that the hill was quite steep coming down which would have made it more difficult if going up that way. Multi-Use tracks for horses, walkers and mountain bikers but not of those out today. Stopped at the Mt Goolman lookout and had lunch and still we did it in just over 2 hours.

Easy walk steep on the way up but good walking surface. Followed the link on this site to navigate to the walk but ended up at a dead end 4 km across country from Hardings Paddock so make sure you follow the written directions going out the Ipswich Boonah road.

Went up via Goolman, came down via Rocky Knoll. Couldn't see any signage saying which way to go, so followed below comment, which was very easy. If in doubt, at the T follow signs to THT (if memory serves). There's 2 at the intersection, then just some more arrows further along a very easy to follow path.

Nice walk, went in a clockwise direction there were a few step inclines but nothing too hard. Two in our crew had small falls on the way down-lost footing on loose gravel. Wouldn't of happened with hiking poles. The view was nice but you had to look through the trees to see it. Clean amenities completed in 3 hrs.

The hike to Goolman Lookout was pleasant and not at all difficult. The trail was wide and accessible, with some steep sections but no climbing or scrambling required.

I walked back via the ‘Rocky Knoll’ Lookout which, true to its name, was a rocky knoll which you can only access by climbing over a barbed-wire fence 😳

It was better to do this walk by going to Goolman Lookout first, wouldn't have wanted to do it the other way around. It is up all the way with some steep sections but we were glad we did it and the view from the top was lovely. We found the signage on the way back inadequate especially if there was an emergency and you weren't sure of your bearings eg. We came back via the wetlands (dry) and came to a sign that said 500m to Hardings Paddock, shortly afterwards there was a T intersection of tracks with no indication which way to go.
