Baroon Lookout

Kondalilla National Park

A great family walk up the side of the gorge to the lookout out across Obi Obi Creek as it heads north from the Baroon Dam and into the Blackall Range to join the Mary River.

Getting there:

Head for Montville and turn into Western Avenue (signposted) and then turn left into Narrows Road down to the dam. The car park is on the right just before the dam, which is also the start of the 58km Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk.

Baroon lookout .

Route/Trail notes:

Signposted from the information board in the car park, follow the track as is meanders uphill over various creek walkways all the way to the lookout and back. The side option are a short walk off the main track to the Narrows Lookout and the Stairs. Be aware that the Stairs is just that, 80 down and 80 back up, but this does take you right down to Obi Obi Creek, with the option of a little rock hopping along the creek bed.

The day use area on the other side of the road is a great place for a picnic following a morning's walk.

There are two sections to the dam wall and each has a car park. Use the first car park you come to, on the right, with the “Great Walk” signage.
Did the walk after 150mm of drought breaking rain. One of the best walks we’ve done. Both lookouts were very much worth the walk. Planning to do it again when the dam is full and the spillway is flowing.

Beautiful walk through forest, over and around running waterways to lookout, with views of Baroon Dam and overlooking Obi Obi Creek way below which we sidetracked to on the way back down to start point.

Fantastic walk with waterfalls and lots to explore. Easy to traverse and the landscape is amazing.

Bit humid and quite a few leeches after the rain. Would be better in winter. Good views from lookout.

Second walk of the year and we hit a new one for Aussie Bushwalking! A great walk for all the family, although the little ones decided not to walk down the 'stairs' to the river. Don't blame them, as it was over 80 steps each way.
