Devils Break Loop

Great bush walk. Not too many people which was a bonus, this will likely become a regular short walk for me.

Getting there

Take Moggill Rd and use the Chalcot Rd entrance to Moggill Conservation Park

Route/Trail notes

Great bush walk. No major viewing points but good well established and wide track. Mostly uphills and downhills, very little flat walking. Some challenging descents down loose gravel. Not too many people which was a bonus, this will likely become a regular short walk for me.

No permits required or costs involved.

Anticlockwise route w/ 3 young kids- tough climb early on, but then relatively easy going.

We parked in the car park off Chalcot Road, Anstead. Walked anti-clockwise along Nursery Break, Devils Break, Powerline Road then a clockwise loop of Powerline Road, Rocky Mountain & Lantana Break. Then along Ugly Gully Break and onto Centre Road which took us back to the car park. Lots of wildlife (birds, lace monitors), certainly challenging in some sections but we would do this one again for the peacefulness and nice wide tracks. Definitely not easy though...should be graded at a medium. Total distance was 11km.

Did this walk with Lantana Break to make it a 11k walk. Glad I had my walking books and poles with me for the steep downward sections. Wouldn’t want to do them with sneakers... A peaceful walk with some birdlife along the way. Spotted two lace monitors. Would do it again for fitness.

My daughter and I did this walk on a very hot day and it was a struggle but we did it. Would have been quite a nice walk without the heat and not another person around which was nice.

Taken counterclockwise - a good choice given the loose gravel on steep up-slopes. Had a picnic at the peak on some cool boulders. Seems popular with horse riders and dog owners. Watch out for dog poo! The horses were a treat for our children. Regular back burns evident on the southern slopes up to the path. Great views in all directions through eucalyptus. Very beautiful walk, we will probably do this one again.

I recommend doing in anticlockwise direction because there is a very steep hill which has alot of loose rocks. Personally I prefer not freaking out that I will fall flat on my face. Much safer anticlockwise but intense for about 7mins to get up the hill. After that very easy.
Total loop is 6.8kms. Took us 1hr20mins.

Went in a clockwise direction, should have gone the other way around. Very hilly with wide easy to follow trails.

There are several trails here all connecting and branching off. Devil's Break is a bit nasty if you come from Nursery Break, doing an anti-clockwise loop. There is a very steep hill but once you're up it the rest is easy. Took me 1hr 20min.

Once up the steep first section on the clockwise loop - the rest was very easy. Wide break. Looping and linking paths.
Beautiful and quiet - fabulous bird song.
Only one proper vantage point to see hills in the distance looking (?) south/

Nice loop very quiet

Devils break can be a bit of hike, gravely and slippery in parts. But once at the top the rest of the walk is very easy, nice and quiet with some great views. Well signed posted, easy to navigate. Other walks in the area are nice as well.
