The summit of Mt Warnilla gives the absolute best views of the Arcadia Valley and especially of Lake Nuga Nuga. No trail or markings, entire walk is trailblazing up the foothills and finally scrambling to the summit.
Much of the summit is cliff-faced and unclimbable without lead-roping equipment/experience, I found a crevice to boulder-climb up to the end and find a way to the plateau at the top.
It's easy enough to get to the cliffside and the views from there are stunning too, but if you have the guff to get to the peak the 360 degree views from the plateau are unbeatable.

Getting there

Mt Warnilla is adjacent to Lake Nuga Nuga in Nuga Nuga National Park, directions are available on the QLD parks website but the park is South of Rolleston & East of Carnarvon Gorge in the middle of the Arcadia Valley, 4WD recommended but not necessary in good dry conditions. Camping is available at Lake Nuga Nuga through QLD Parks.

Maps

Couldn't find a topographic map, I found my own way as the terrain is easy to read in the day. Wanted to post this walk here so others can find this hidden gem as I found no details online.

This is the basic Nuga Nuga map for reference:

Route/Trail notes

Recommend camping between the lake and the mountain and hiking there and back early in the day, absolutely no trail so navigation skills/equipment are necessary.

I started from the lakeside and headed North to the Southern foothills, then trailblazed zigzagging up the side the to Southern cliffs of the plateau summit. The views to this point are spectacular, but if you have the guff it's worth circling around these cliffs to find a passage up to the summit within your ability. I found one on the Southern cliffside and had to rock climb up, quite dangerous but we'll worth it if you can.

The summit is a large forested plateau, walking the cliffs gives takes 5 or 10 minutes and gives 360 degree views of the Arcadia Valley and the surrounding ranges, and a stunning perspective of Lake Nuga Nuga.

Take care to leave more than enough time, taking food/water and medical supplies. Compass necessary.

Comments

AMAZING views, well worth it but tricky and requires bushwalking experience.
