Boat Mountain, Braithwaites Lookout

Wide Bay Burnett

A walk up to Boat Mountain's first lookout with views towards Murgon, through healthy, partly-shaded bushland.

While this is a short and easy to follow track, the walk begins with a long staircase (approx. 190 steps), making this a Grade 3-4 track.

Getting there

Boat Mountain is north-east of Murgon. Head north out of Murgon along Gore Street which becomes Boat Mountain Road. Travel for 9km along Boat Mountain Road then turn right into Levers Road. From Goomeri, head 2km towards Nanango then take the Murgon Road 4km to the Manyung Road turnoff. Drive 4.5km then veer right into Reifs Road. Continue for 3.5km then turn right into Daniels Road. Continue 2.8km to the park.

Route/Trail notes

The trailhead is well signed, starting behind the picnic table at the carpark. Follow the staircase as it winds up the side of the mountain. There are many stairs, but they are a good depth/distance apart (not too stressful on the knees) and there are chairs part-way up/at the top if you need to catch your breath.

Return via the same route or continue on to Daniel's Lookout and Silburns Vine Scrub Walk.

Lots of stairs, then a peaceful lookout. Nice and shady most of the way. Heaps of interesting native plants.

Very short climb up some stairs for this lookout. Clean track with a view through the trees to areas around Murgon.

Great walk. 190 steps up the mountain, and then a lovely 2km return walk along the top of the flat mountain. Two different tracks, both well worth the walk. Views from Daniel's lookout were magnificent. Would definitely recommend this walk - we headed to Bjelke-Petersen dam for lunch after our walk which made for a wonderful day out in the Burnett.
