Boat Mountain, Silburns Vine Scrub Walk

Boat Mountain is named for it's shape, which looks like an overturned Viking ship. Silburns Vine Scrub Walk is a side track off the main trail. It winds through a shady section of dry rainforest that contains many interesting vines and plants (you may wish to wear protective clothing to avoid being scratched by prickly shrubs).

Getting there

Boat Mountain is north-east of Murgon. Head north out of Murgon along Gore Street which becomes Boat Mountain Road. Travel for 9km along Boat Mountain Road then turn right into Levers Road. After 0.6km, turn left into Daniels Road. Continue 1.4km then turn right into Hebbel Drive and drive another 1.4km to the park.

From Goomeri, head 2km towards Nanango then take the Murgon Road 4km to the Manyung Road turnoff. Drive 4.5km then veer right into Reifs Road. Continue for 3.5km then turn right into Daniels Road. Continue 2.8km to the park.

Beautiful, shaded walk lower down on Boat Mountain's escarpment. Lots of birds in the canopy & understory plants. Plenty of spikey native plants but none crossing the path. The path was unclear at times due to a thick layer of leaf litter, but easy enough to pick up again after a few meters. Lots of dig holes from bandicoots/echidnas Loved this walk.

Bit scary in the afternoon with all the quails running around. Gets pretty dark, but good addition to Daniel's look out.

The initial stage of this walk includes a steep series of steps. Temperatures can be quite a lot cooler than usual if walking in early morning or late afternoon.

Scrub walk, mostly kept clear, with just a few overgrown vines dropping into pathway. Great for birdlife. Easy walk once up stairs.

Nice walk, perhaps a singlet wasn't the best to wear , quite a few scratches on arms etc but hey that's part of the fun anyway. Is quite thick with vines at times though.
