Getting there

On your GPS search 'Devils Peak Hike Start', this will take you to a medium sized carpark on Tafelberg Road - just up the road from the Table Mountain Cable car.

Route/Trail notes

The track is very well sign-posted. From the carpark it starts with a moderate zigzagging track up to a T Intersection (Left to Devils Peak, Right to Platteklip Gorge - Table Mountain). Following this it is quite flat and easy for a short while until you get to the steep final ascent to the summit. Fantastic views the whole way with plenty of photo opportunities. Keep your eyes peeled for the little Rock Hyraxes who live up on the mountain.

Permits/Costs

No cost.

Comments

Cape Town is an amazing place to go hiking! Whilst Table Mountain is the most famous, Devils Peak right next door is definitely worth checking out. Unlike Table Mountain there is no cable car to the top so when you make it to the summit you feel like you have accomplished something. The walk was very well marked and we saw quite a few hikers out and about exploring while we were there. I would say it is similar in difficulty to Flinders Peak - possibly a bit easier. I would go as far as to say it's better than Table Mountain because you have the full 360 degree panorama.
