| After catching the Snow Gums Chairlift from Thredbo, we walked up and along the Merritts Nature Track to Eagles Nest (about 500m), where we started the walk. Was a lovely clear day and we enjoyed good weather - around 15 degrees - although it was windy in sections and definitely needed some layers and an all weather jacket. A thunder storm appeared to our south over the Victorian ranges and provided a dramatic backdrop to our summit. We encountered some snow on the track just after Rawsons Pass. Only a few people on the track and we shared the summit with a group of 4 Polish backpackers. The pathways and raised boardwalk made the walk relatively straightforward and easier on the legs. We did the outward leg (mostly uphill) in 2 hours and the return leg in 1 hour 15 minutes - just in time to catch the last of the chairlift service for the day (and avoid another 4 km walk down Merritts Nature Track). Total distance for the walk was 14km. | ||||
