We have been to this location 4 times, the last 3 yrs have been annual get aways. We have completed all walks including castle mountain twice (3rd time in June 2019).

The shamrock mine walk has changed since we went the first time, parts are overgrown. Its vital to stick to the track for your own safety. Its a historical path with heaps of information. I have heard of a track that goes from shamrock to castle mtn but not yet explored it.

The castle mtn hike is not one frequented by walkers, it is more of a fire trail but can be overgeown in places. I have successfully walked this at 150kgs so don't think its out of your league! First time it took me 10hrs... the 2nd time was 7hrs. The average time for someone with good fitness is 6hrs but recommended for 6-8.

There are steep hilly parts in the last 3rd before the lookout where the red soil becomes rocky and in full sun. The ants are active and dont allow you to stand still! Keep moving. Take loads of water with you and a snack for the top. The view is worth it or i would not have done it multiple times! Plus I like the challenge.

I enjoyed the overhang walk, its a breezy stretch follow up from the castle mtn walk the day before. Its the type of walk to quietly take in your surrounds theres so many fascinating naturescapes to see. There are stairs and hills, steep small and can be uneven stairs. Please take care!

The first time i went we did all the smaller walks, will look fwd to visiting these again this time.

We have stayed at both holiday parks and prefer the Big 4. Sunrise at the lake lookout is magnificent! The fog hovering over the lake at ground level is a nature lover and photographers dream!
Shamrock Mine Site (Cania Gorge National Park)

2nd time in June 2018, much different to the first in 2014. Much more overgrown and its been let go. There is a hill climb to the top where the path winds between relics and signs that give you an account of what happened there.

There are mine shafts, cages and relics on loan from locals that takes you back in time. You need to stick to the path as there are many collapsed shafts and entrys, it is risky walking off it. The first time it was more looked after and interesting.
Dripping Rock and The Overhang (Cania Gorge National Park)
Jun, 2018
Easy
3.2km return
90 mins
Last year was the 2nd time on this walk.

Each time there are different features exposed. Rocks, erosion, trees, and gold orb spiders. It is windy, can run along the creek bed (amazing rocks found there!), steps and board walk type before reaching the overhang.

I imagine it like a fairy forest! It feels magical, walking quietly and enjoying the landscape. The overhang is HUGE you can walk right under and around it, like a jurassic park kind of feel with ferns. Dripping rock is fascinating, the green contrast against the orange red rock is stunning.

I have bad knees and used 2 trekking poles which helped dramatically on the return. There are stairs in the first section of this but nothing major, on the way back they are death with fatigued legs haha.

Happy to talk to anyone who has questions.
