Silburns Vine Scrub Walk

Boat Mountain Conservation Park

Boat Mountain is named for it's shape, which looks like an overturned Viking ship. Silburns Vine Scrub Walk is a side track off the main trail. It winds through a shady section of dry rainforest that contains many interesting vines and plants and the odd Padymelon if you are lucky.

Route/Trail notes:

The trailhead is well signed, starting behind the picnic table at the car park. Follow the staircase as it winds up the side of the mountain. There are many stairs, but they are a good depth/distance apart and not too stressful on the knees. Carry on beyond Braithwaites Lookout and turn right (signposted) around the looped track.

At the end of the loop, turn left to return to the car park or right to continue on to Daniels Lookout.

In reality, this is one walk to Daniels Lookout broken into three sections. If you take the strenuous climb to Braithwaites then the walk around Silburns Vine Scrub Walk and up to Daniels Lookout is easy.
We were there the week after the earthquake at Murgon, which you could see from Braithwaites Lookout less than 10km away. Luckily no aftershocks.

Beautiful, shaded walk lower down on Boat Mountain's escarpment. Lots of birds in the canopy & understory plants. Plenty of spikey native plants but none crossing the path. The path was unclear at times due to a thick layer of leaf litter, but easy enough to pick up again after a few meters. Lots of dig holes from bandicoots/echidnas Loved this walk.

Bit scary in the afternoon with all the quails running around. Gets pretty dark, but good addition to Daniel's look out.

The initial stage of this walk includes a steep series of steps. Temperatures can be quite a lot cooler than usual if walking in early morning or late afternoon.

Scrub walk, mostly kept clear, with just a few overgrown vines dropping into pathway. Great for birdlife. Easy walk once up stairs.

Nice walk, perhaps a singlet wasn't the best to wear , quite a few scratches on arms etc but hey that's part of the fun anyway. Is quite thick with vines at times though.
