Getting there

Crows Nest is about 50km north of Toowoomba. The park is on the righthand side of the road just before driving into Crows Nest - look for the art installation of a team of bullocks. The trailhead to Applegum Walk is behind the Bullockys Rest carpark on the New England Highway in Crows Nest Qld

Route/Trail notes

From the Applegum Walk trailhead, cross the wooden footbridge and continue along the dirt/grass pathway that follows the creekline. After a short distance, use the metal grate bridge to cross back to the northern bank of the creek. Note: These creek crossings are usually passable but can flood after heavy rain.

The creek bank becomes rocky for a short distance then returns to a dirt track. Follow the sign to the Pump Hole lookout, and take the short side-track to see the deep waterhole, which has interesting rock formations and is home to long-necked turtles. There are a lot of signs identifying the native plants along the walk.

Continue along the trail until you reach the small picnic area at Hartmann Park. From here, you can cross the creek on a metal grate bridge (if water levels allow) and head up the hill on the opposite bank to explore a small network of walking trails. This area is not clearly marked but all paths eventually lead back to the creek.

Return via the same route. Alternately, you can exit Hartmann Park via the steep bitumen driveway at William St and walk back along Esk St to reach the car park.

walked many times. An easy nice walk along the creek

This is a favourite re-visit walk for our family. Water was rushing today which made the metal bridge creek crossings more exciting. The kids love sitting in the sandstone caves where the creek bends and looking for turtles at the waterhole.

This was an unexpectedly lovely walk beside the creek. A little boggy in places but the creek was full and flowing. Wouldn’t be suitable after days of heavy rain as the area clearly floods.

There have been some extra tracks added to the Hartmanns Park area.
