The sealed track to Python Rock has even grades, suitable for older people and those confined to wheelchairs. The booyongs and figs near the West Cliff turn off are impressive as are the large New England Blackbutt as you enter the open forest for the first time. The view from Python Rock overlooks Castle Crag to the Lost World with Mount Throakban on the left and Moran's Falls. You can proceed up the hill from the lookout on a tough track and turn left for West Cliff.

Getting there

The Python Rock track starts on the road, 800m before the National Park Information Centre at Green Mountains.

Route/Trail notes

The track is well marked and fully maintained. It passes through both rainforest and open eucalypt forest.

A good warm down walk.

A stunning little walk. You have quite good cover from the canopy above for almost all of the walk and constantly experience the towering big boy Booyong trees.

It ends with a stunning lookout. We combined this walk with the Morans Falls walk but I would recommend doing this first. Seeing the waterfall from the lookout, and hearing the rush of water, really motivates you to check it out. If you do the Morans Falls walk first I still wouldn't skip this but some may be tired after the short ascent.

The lookout is quite built up but of course be careful with kids as it drops away sharply.

This would have to be one of my favourite places 😍

Head up to O'Rielleys and this hike is just before the carpark at the top of the mountain.

I do both of these hikes as they are both quite short but put together and it is a nice length.

I recommend doing Python Rock first then you can relax at Morans Fall's as the 2nd part to your hike.

Python Rock is 3.4 km return and has lovely views of Castle Crag over looking The Lost World and Razorback Mountain.

Morans Fall's is 4.4 km return.
It is a beautiful hike through lush rainforest 🍃 and ancient tree's 🌳 with the destination of the top of the Fall's feeling like the edge of the world 🌏

You will have to do some rock hopping to get to the top of the Fall's, but I guarantee you will love it 💙💚💛 Kick off your shoes 👣 and cool down in the crystal, cool water 🏞

This hike would be great for a family day out as it is an easy hike and the kid's will love playing and cooling off in the water 🌈

Great views over Castle Crag and down to Morans, over to Lost world and southern lamington!

Stunning views at the end make this very worthwhile. Not a lot of uphill made the kids happy. Paired this with Moran's falls to make a great morning.

Another great visit. Check out the Pat's Bluff track while you're here (adds an extra 20min to the walk).

An amazing lookout. Each time I go to O'Reilly's I'm always impressed.
