Getting there

Head to the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park. The walk to Morans Falls starts about 1km before you reach the (O'Reilys) car park at the end of the road.  If the carpark is full you can park at O'Reilys and backtrack.

Maps

The walk is clearly marked. Track maps are available from the information centre.

Route/Trail notes

Follow the track! Make sure to follow the track past the first lookout (after snapping some photos) down to where the track crosses the creek (great place for a snack) and on to the lookout a few hundred metres further on. This gives a great view over the gorge out towards Main Range.

Other References

Just about any guide book/website/brochure for Lamington or O'Reilly's will have something on the walk.

It's also worth checking out Bernard O'Reilly's book "Green Mountains" which describes the family's move to the plateau, including their first hut near Morans Falls.

Comments

There is a shorter route to this lookout if you are at the Villas at O'Reilly's head down to the Spa and just before the pool there is a short 500m walk to the falls lookout. Quite easy to walk it.

Incredible!!

Great walk a little foggy and wet to begin with, only added to the experience. Terrific view across the Valley once we reached the end. Easy hike completed it with our 7 and 11 year old in tow.

Spectacular views, particularly in the afternoon

My daughter and I completed this walk in the afternoon after setting up camp. Great afternoon walk and good prep for the Border Track the next day.

Very pretty waterfall and a nice easy walk.

Great walk, absolutely loved it.
We have twin 6 yr olds that enjoyed the walk as well.

Very Easy walk I was able to do it with a torn meniscus.

Beautiful walk. The scenery and views are amazing. The walk is easy going, nothing too strenuous. Our 7 and 8 year olds managed well and we completed the walk in 90 minutes, including time to explore the falls and take photos.
Make sure you take some warm layers of clothing with you, as it's pretty cool underneath the trees and it's generally a few degrees cooler at O'Reilly's than down on the coast.
One of the better waterfalls we've visited - well worth it!

Visited with the whole family. Kids handled the walk easily (6 & 8). Saw a beautiful rainbow in the falls when we got there.

Excellent walk, especially if you rock hop to the top of the falls.

Completed this after doing the Python Rock walk. Really great walk with stunning views.

At the end of the trail there is a nice open area to sit down and eat any food you have brought with you.

As I mentioned in my Python Rock walk comment I would recommend doing this one second if you think you can tackle both of them. It's a good finisher for the day as your legs may be burning depending on the pace of your ascent.

Did this walk with my husband and son for Mother’s Day very easy walk.
Weather was great on the day! Does get a little cold on the walk so make sure to pack a jumper.
Once u reach the falls definitely kick ur shoes off and walk in the water! We also sat right next to the falls on the rocks and enjoyed our packed lunch just be very careful with kids near edge as it’s just a very long deadly drop! But the view of the mountains and the waterfall was very peaceful.

EASY
3/5

Nice walk. Track is mostly dirt with some stairs every so often. Long enough to feel like you’re getting decent exercise, but short enough to not be exhausting. Going back uphill doesn’t involve huge slopes, more like gradual changes in gradient.

Scenery is nice. Interesting treetops, interesting tree logs lying on the ground, interesting moss. Has a nice rainforesty feel without the vegetation being too dense. Minus 2 points for limited waterfall view, despite the track having ‘falls’ in the name, you can really only see the falls at one point along the track at a small lookout. View is also slightly obstructed by a couple of branches and whatnot. Getting to the actual falls requires deviating off-track slightly; once you reach the final lookout, if you backtrack maybe 20m and hop over the fence, you can walk a couple more metres down to the river and the falls.

Would recommend for anyone staying at O’Reilly’s for the day, it’s a nice relatively short and easy walk, although I might prefer to do one of the other longer hikes in the area.

This would have to be one of my favourite places 😍

Head up to O'Rielleys and this hike is just before the carpark at the top of the mountain.

I do both of these hikes as they are both quite short but put together and it is a nice length.

I recommend doing Python Rock first then you can relax at Morans Fall's as the 2nd part to your hike.

Python Rock is 3.4 km return and has lovely views of Castle Crag over looking The Lost World and Razorback Mountain.

Morans Fall's is 4.4 km return.
It is a beautiful hike through lush rainforest 🍃 and ancient tree's 🌳 with the destination of the top of the Fall's feeling like the edge of the world 🌏

You will have to do some rock hopping to get to the top of the Fall's, but I guarantee you will love it 💙💚💛 Kick off your shoes 👣 and cool down in the crystal, cool water 🏞

This hike would be great for a family day out as it is an easy hike and the kid's will love playing and cooling off in the water 🌈

Took a friend as I was so impressed with this walk only a few days earlier.

A pretty walk & a good one for families too as it’s not difficult. I did it today in the drizzling rain & it was really nice & safe even when wet.

Just joined the forum - great stuff here. It is a decade or more since I last visited the O'Reilly's end of the Lamington NP. As a kid and through to young adulthood I spent a lot of time at Lamington; the Morans Falls & Castle Crag walks were always my favourite short walks. Unfortunately, I have only managed 2 or 3 visits in the last 25-odd years. I will be back in Australia at Christmas with my kids and am hoping to spend a day up there, so Moran's Falls will be an ideal family walk. Does anyone know if the walk to the bottom of the falls has been re-opened? I have no idea when (or why) it was closed but I was surprised to find it closed on a visit in the late 1990's. I hope it is open again, as the swimming hole at the bottom of the falls was fabulous.
