Booloumba Creek to Wongai Walkers Camp

Conondale National Park

This can be done in 1 day if fit and keen enough or make it a 2 dayer as part of the Conondale Great Walk. . Great weekender hike if you like to camp too. Starting from the Booloumba Creek day use area hike up past the Artist Cascades then onto Booloumba Falls following to the Wongai walkers camp. Maps state that its 11km, but the GPS marked it out at 12.1km. Returning back the way you came. And best of all its most down hill for the return trip.

Getting there:

From Kenilworth travel south on the Maleny Kenilworth Road for 7km before turning right onto Booloumba Creek Road. Travel a further 5km along this road to the entrance of the park. From here on, the road is unsealed and you will need a High Clearance 4WD as there a number of creek crossings. After 1km you will reach the Day Use Area on the right, where you can park.

All the walks start from here, although they can be accessed from the three camping areas.

Comments

Very surprised by how dry the track was given the amount of rain we had had on the coast. Leeches were expected. We only walked the 20kmish from the booloumba Day Use to the falls return. The falls were super busy but so beautiful. Have learnt return trips are so worth doing as the pictures look so different and you do miss stuff you shouldn't. On the return we bathed our sore feet at the top of the artists cascades while we cooked. Just stunning. Took about 6 hours with a couple of good stops at the falls. The walk is great to get your heart going on the incline towards booloumba falls with some resting flatish bits to. Deffinitely not easy but not overly hard for those with a bit of fitness.

The "CLIMB" ( hahaha) after Cascades will sort ya out -- nothing but steps for vertical of 270 odd mtr Altitude

It was a long steady climb after crossing the cascades and drying the feet. I was the only one too lazy to wear my gaiters on the way up and had the leeches because of it. The return trip the next day is easier, being almost all downhill.
