A short walk to views of the powerful thundering water flow through a natural 15m wide gorge before spilling over Huka Falls, which could fill 5 Olympic swimming pools a minute with its flow. The falls vary from 7m to 9.5m and are situated on the Waikato River which is the longest river in New Zealand and the only river to drain Lake Taupo.

From the centre of Taupo it takes five minutes by car. Head north on Tongariro Street which becomes Wairakei Drive once you cross the Waikato River bridge. Half way up the hill, turn right (signposted at the lookout) into Huka Falls road and follow to the fall’s car park on your right.
From car park cross the bridge over the Waikato River. Turn left and walk to a series of lookouts and back.
