Aussie Bushwalking can keep track of your bushwalks.
Login/signup to tick this walk off.A stunning example of karst topography located in Kitakyushu that is entirely unique. This is a super cool hike and one is personally one of the best I have done in Japan.
Get to the beginning of this hike by driving to the Chagatoko Parking Lot (茶ケ床園地 駐車場). There are plenty of other carparks that you can start this hike from but this is the one that I personally started from. As far as I am aware it is not possible to access this hike via public transport.
Check out yamap.
From the carpark, go to where the benches are and you will find an opening that leads to a well maintained path. Continue following this along until you start to see signs in Japanese (sometimes in English) that read for 貫山 Nukiyama. Continue following signs for this or just look out for a path that takes you to the obvious mountain in front of you.
The path is very relaxing and is nothing too hard. Enjoy all of the cool karst rock formation.
There is a gentle incline that leads you up to the first false summit which gives you access to ocean views. From here continue left up the taller mountain, this is Mt. Nuki. The final stretch up to Mt. Nuki is very very steep. It is as close as you can get to something being verticle without it actually being verticle. Be prepared to use those legs.
Views from the top are okay but the views along the way are cooler.
On the way back, follow the ridge line towards the carpark, this should take you over a few more mountains and spit you out along a concrete road that takes you directly to the carpark.
It's free baby including carpark.
Good luck.
