Begin the hike at Kabushima Shrine in Hachinohe, Aomori prefecture. There is a train station ( 鮫駅 Same Station) nearby or you can alternatively begin the walk from Hachinohe station.
From Kabushima shrine, follow the coast line first through some ugly industrial area and then onto a rugged coastline. Continue following the coastline along the obvious trail until you get bored or have decided that you have walked enough. Scattered along the trail are various bus stops and train station which you can use at any point to head back to Kabushima Shrine.
I personally recommend walking the distance all the way to at least Okuki Station or for those who want a bit more of an adventure, all the way to Hashikami. Of course, this trail may be continued for its entire length but if just attempting a day trip, this is a fine section of the trail that offers fantastic views of Japan's Pacific coastline.
Note there is a good doughnut shop near Kabushima Shrine that is worth stopping by after the hike to reward yourself.
