Witches Chase

Tamborine National Park

Witches Falls is Queensland’s first National Park, declared in 1908. This track leads through rainforest with large red cedar trees and eucalypt forest to Witches Falls lookout. The waterfall only flows after recent rain and is best viewed from the lookout platform.

Return by the same route, or extend your walk by 3.1km by completing the Witches Falls Circuit, which starts just beyond the lookout.

This is a very easy walk. It's only the roots and stoned trail creating and uneven step that slightly push it into medium. An easy 2 hrs, that's with connecting to Witches Falls

Pretty waterfall but a tricky walk to see it - narrow pathway and a rock scramble.

SuzyOC on 11 Apr, 2024

casual stroll with some forks and options, good views, lots of flora.

Nice rainforesty hike. Little lookout at the end of the Witches Chase loop, which you can continue into the Witches Falls route. You can start with either walk and do both in one big circuit, like a figure 8 (the end and start of the next circuit is the lookout). We did both of them in just under 2 hours excluding lunch break. Did this one with Josh.

beautiful walk. rocky at times. quiet as most people will just do the walk to witches falls and will not continue on.

Pleasant extension to the Falls Circuit. One boulder section is slippery after rain.

Can get here and double back from Witches Falls but there is parking up at Witches Chase beginning and nobody seems to park there. Coming in from Witches Falls generally parking can be hard to find. Nice walk, some rock hopping. Fun for kids. Took us just over 2hrs including the Witches Falls circuit; Approx 6.5km.

What beautiful everyone should do it

Did this and the Witches Falls Circuit together. Started at the car park and made our way along the circuit and then onto Witches Chase. Stopped for a snack break where it meets the road and then headed back and continued along going clockwise back onto the circuit. The last part going all up and several switchbacks was a little tough on the hips and knees but beautiful rainforest setting so worth it. Next time will probably not bother with the Witches Chase Part and just to do the Witches Falls Circuit and go anti clockwise.. either way you will be going back uphill at the end back to car park but anticlockwise maybe slightly less in the way of the big steps going up the switchbacks.

Lovely walk. Walked down to the lookout then back up and ended up at the car park. The start of the trail was a little hard to find (tucked away off the Main Street) but was worth it.

A lovely walk. Quite easy. One section of rocks to step carefully over. A few steps but really quite easy. We started the walk from the car park at the intersection of Hartley and Main Western Road where there is public toilets and picnic facilities. Stunning views across and down from the viewing platform.

Although there is limited parking, there are a lot fewer people parked at the Witches Chase end of the walk, rather than the Witches Falls car park, which can be very busy. It is an up and back walk to the falls, which are best to visit after rain. You can double the walk by completing the Witches Falls circuit if you are after a longer walk. It is a walk that you can do several times as it is a beautiful and interesting walk and different in the different seasons. I suggest completing the circuit walk in a clockwise direction if you would prefer to walk up a gradual slope and down stairs.

Personally I think this is the best walk on the mountain. Its like a magical enchanted garden. Completed starting from falls end and did not walk all the way to the top. The top section looked a little overgrown following recent rain, Im sure you could have easily gone through.

Great views, nice walk.

My first hike after being a couch potato for the past 2 years. I picked an absolutely perfect August mid Sunday morning (22 degrees, clear skies and no wind). The winding dirt track removes a lot of the incline, although one rocky section in the middle required concentration to avoid strains. All in all a little short for me, so I continued onto the Witches Circuit (3.1km).

Enjoyable walk to the Witches Falls via Witches Chase. I walked this with my 7 and 9 year olds this afternoon and it took us 90 minutes, which included a number of stops along the way.
There is a carpark at the corner of Witches Chase and Colville Drive, which is not so well signposted, but you walk down a dirt track until you come to the Tamborine National Park sign, and go from there.
There are some lovely views through the trees at the start of the track. You wind your way down the side of the mountain into the lush subtropical forest below. There's a section of boulders along the track, which makes for some fun rock hopping and gives the walk a little more interest. There are some impressively large boulders and trees through the forest until you reach the waterfall.
The waterfall itself only had a trickle of water and wasn't anything greatly impressive to look at; however there is a lovely view from the lookout platform.
From the waterfall, you can continue on to do the Witches Circuit, although as we had previously walked the Circuit before and it was late afternoon, we headed back along Witches Chase.

Beautiful hike. I went with a friend and we did it in 2 hours.
Would not take children under 5

By far the better part of Witches Falls. The views are pristine and the walk is fairly easy.

Just avoid the track after rain, mud gets everywhere.

Combined with the circuit track makes for a pretty nice not one walk

Kcdixon on 10 Sep, 2018

Did the Chase and the circuit on the weekend. To reach the Witches Chase parking area you need to drive down a dirt track about 50m.

The chase pArt of the track is not all that difficult although its over grown in some sections. It decends through nice forest to the falls lookout which looks out to the west over the valley. The biggest issue is proably 200-300m in where the track is simply a pile of 200mm-500mm sharp edged rocks constituting a track.
