Getting there

There are 2 ways to start the walk

1) The cheaters way - taking the Skyline Gondola up and starting at the top of the hill
2) The authentic way - starting at the top of Brecon St and taking the Tiki Trail to the top of the gondola station then continuing up the mountain

Route/Trail notes

The Tiki trail is well marked and zigzags its way through thick forest up to the gondola station. From there follow the firetrail up to the Ben Lomond trail which descends slightly before ascending up to the saddle. This section is pretty easy going with improving views the further you go. At the saddle you will find toilets and a bench of reflection that aims out towards the distant snow covered mountains. The summit track is quite a bit steeper with some minor scrambling - no real exposure though. Eventually you will reach the summit cairn where you get an amazing 360 degree view of Queenstown and beyond.

Permits/Costs

Parking can be tricky and expensive but no charge to actually undertake the walk.

Comments

Nice easy to follow trail - more physically difficult than Roys Peak but not by much. The views throughout are sensational, difficult to take a bad photo up there. Lots of people out and about, even on a week day.
