Walpa, meaning 'windy' Gorge is a desert refuge for plants and animals. The rocky track gently rises to an ephemeral stream, passing rare plants and reaching a grove of spearwood. Walk within the sheer walls closing in on you from both sides and experience the vast landscape.

Getting there:

Travel into the National Park from Yulara and once in the park, take the first right (signposted). Follow this road for 35km, before turning right to the Walpa Gorge car park. (signposted).

Route/Trail notes:

From the car park, walk along the defined rubble pathway into the gorge and back, where there are a number of dry creek bridge crossing and benches to take a rest.

Permits/Costs:

Admission to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park costs $25 per adult (2019) and provides a three or more day pass. Passes are non-transferable and are scanned/checked at the Ranger Station.

Late arvo. We had to share the whole gorge with another two visitors. The sunset colours were so mesmerising that we missed the sunset from the “sunset viewing area”. I would say we actually upgraded.

nice views of cliffs but not much more we went out through the back and around the long way back to the car but wasn't really worth the walk i would recommend just walk in to see the cliffs and walk out again :)

Really could not get excited about this walk, as there was absolutely nothing to see. Sheer cliffs in the gorge, but that was about it.
